The WDF continues on Wednesday when another six matches take place in the men’s draw at the Lakeside Country Club while two more women’s games also take place on the stage as we head closer to finals day on Sunday.
The second round of the men’s draw will come to an end over the course of Wednesday and the last 16 will get underway while two more last 16 matches in the women’s event come along as the number one seed starts her challenge for glory.
Afternoon Session
The number two seed is the star who gets us up and running on Wednesday. That is Thibault Tricole and the French player will take on the Canadian ace Shawn Burt who caused a ripple through the draw when he dumped out the tournament favourite Connor Scutt in the first round. The number one seed in the women’s draw then starts her campaign as Deta Hedman looks to add the only trophy she is yet to get her hands on to her CV. She faces the Australian player Tori Kewish.
The final two matches of the afternoon session should be very good. They see Leonard Gates going up against the former PDC star Steve Hine. Gates is a potential dark horse for this tournament so it will be interesting to see how he gets on. Dave Parletti had an emotional and very good win over Shaun McDonald in the opening round and his reward for that is the chance to close out the evening session when he meets Andy Baetens.

Evening Session
The penultimate match in the last 32 in the men’s draw opens up what has to be described as a potentially brilliant evening session. That sees Scott Marsh taking on James Richardson in what should be a really good game between two very good players. We begin the last 16 in the second game of the evening and we start out with arguably the tie of the round as the teenage superstar Luke Littler goes up against Richard Veenstra in what is a huge test for both players.
Lorraine Winstanley will then get her World Championship campaign underway in the third match of the night. She meets Vicky Pruim who will be looking to show she has more game than she offered in her opening match. An excellent evening session then continues with another great looking game as the number one seed Brian Raman goes up against the young ace Jarred Cole in a match which might even be a glimpse towards the future of the PDC tour with both men likely to be operating there after this tournament. The final match of a suddenly busy day is the held over one between the ‘defending champion’ Wayne Warren and Lee Shewan.
Betting
I’m going to sit back and enjoy the action on Wednesday. It is the last day where players take to the stage for the first time so from Thursday onwards I’m expecting everything to be a little more predictable and we can bet with a little more certainty. There is one bet I’m happy to take on what really does look like a good evening of arrers, especially with that last match on Tuesday rescheduled for the session. It comes in the standout match between Luke Littler and Richard Veenstra.
I’m a little surprised that we can get such a big price on Littler to hit more than 3.5 180s in the contest. He hit four 180s in his opening match in a contest which went five sets but really we can say he hit four 180s in four sets because he understandably needed the first set on stage to shed the nerves and find his rhythm and things. He won’t need that here so I expect to see an even better performance from the teenager, not that his opening display wasn’t good. He averaged 91.25 in that match which is certainly going to have him competitive in this one and potentially the favourite. Veenstra is capable of good things on this stage so I am expecting a lengthy affair here which should give Littler more than enough time to pin the four 180s we need. This is a lad who hit a nine dart finish last month so we know he knows where the 60 is. He can show that regularly here.
