The second part of the double header in the SA20 competition on Saturday sees the action returning to Cape Town for the match between the MI Cape Town team and the Johannesburg Super Kings in what could reveal plenty about both teams.
Both these teams have a win and a loss on their record this season but courtesy of their win being a bonus point one MI Cape Town are the highest of the two in the table. Whoever wins here will finish the day in the top two though.
MI Cape Town
The MI Cape Town opened the tournament in emphatic and ruthless fashion but as good as they were in their opening match they struggled in their second one and now they have the problem of having to back up a performance the following day, which isn’t easy at the best of times let alone when you lost the previous day. Cape Town are going to need to play much better if they are to get anything out of this one.
The problem they had in that second game against the Durban Super Giants was that the hero of the opening win, Dewald Brevis, was out early and because nobody else really hit their stride in that first game they collapsed in a bit of a heap. Cape Town did well to repair some of the damage they did with the bat and put a score on the board but even with their bowling attack it was evident that they didn’t have enough runs pretty quickly in the piece.
Johannesburg Super Kings
The Johannesburgh Super Kings got themselves off to a winning start but then like the MI Cape Town they fell to defeat on Friday but unlike Cape Town, they have to travel from Paarl to Newlands for this match and back up a horrendous loss the day before which certainly isn’t going to be easy. There is an IPL history behind this fixture so there will be no shortage of incentive for the Super Kings to respond here but it might be easier said than done.
The real issue which has presented itself early in this competition for the Super Kings is their top order has blown up twice and they are in desperate need of some runs. We saw their lower order get them out of trouble in the first game but that was down to some indifferent bowling. They can’t rely on that happening too often. There is enough in their bowling unit that if that top order can sort their issues out they should win more matches than they lose.

Key Players
George Linde could have a huge role to play in this match. We saw that he can smash the ball out of the park on Friday but we also saw the wicket start to turn very sharply so he could be as important with the ball as with the bat.
Reeza Hendricks hasn’t got going in this tournament with the bat just yet and the Johannesburg Super Kings could do with him coming to the party here. He might be important with the ball too though on a slow wicket.
Betting
We saw the pitch turn a fair bit on Friday and I suspect we are going to be on the same wicket for this match because 24 hours isn’t a huge amount of time to prepare another wicket. Even if we are on a different pitch the square has been exposed to the heat that South Africa is enjoying at the minute so it is hard to believe that it is going to play how the organisers might want it to play. Batting was a real struggle early on Friday and I don’t expect any difference here.
In fact, batting has been hard in the first innings in both matches at Newlands so far and has gotten better the longer the game has gone on. That makes me think we might be in for a low scoring match here, particularly when you consider that in their two matches so far Johannesburg Super Kings have been 27-4 and 16-4. There is enough quality in these two attacks to keep the pressure on and with the ball maybe not coming onto the bat and spin being king I think a 312.5 run line is a little on the high side in this one.
