We are in the latter stages of the regular season in the SA20 competition and the second half of the double header on Friday could be quite significant when the Durban’s Super Giants host the Sunrisers Eastern Cape at Kingsmead.
The Super Giants kept their campaign alive with a win on Thursday and they will be looking to dodge the rain and come out on top here. Sunrisers can all but secure a semi-final berth if they are able to come away from Durban with the win.
Durban’s Super Giants
The Durban’s Super Giants went into the break for the ODI series bottom of the table. They are still in that position but the win over the MI Cape Town team on Thursday has allowed them to latch onto the pack and give them a chance of reaching the semi-final. The chances are they are still going to have to win out and it might be that they need a bonus point somewhere along the way, but they still have their destiny in their own hands for now.
If the Super Giants are going to get the two wins they need then they are going to have to back up their display on Thursday the day after which is never an easy thing to do. They might need to be better too, certainly in the last five overs of each innings. MI Cape Town nearly got away from them with the bat in that period and Durban almost three the match away in the last five overs when they batted. They didn’t so it didn’t cost them but they won’t want to rely on such sloppiness going unpunished again.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape went into the break second in the table with four wins from their eight matches and one more win should be enough to get them into the semi-finals. Two will definitely get them into the semis so they will be eager to come out on top here and get their spot secured as early as they can. They have taken the time on the break to add to their squad and make sure they have sufficient depth in all departments.
I guess one criticism of the Sunrisers is that they have often been a batter light so the addition of Temba Bavuma will be seen as a positive one, but that will only be the case if he can get going straight away and not eat up deliveries. The one thing Eastern Cape have had no problem with is bowlers for specific conditions. They have a good variation with their bowling depth and can field a bowling attack which causes matchup problems for the rest of the teams in the tournament.

Key Players
Quinton de Kock showed his class on Thursday when his 50 set up the win in the run chase and now that he is back at the top of the order for the Durban’s Super Giants the home side will be hoping he has another big innings in him.
Aiden Markram probably didn’t score the amount of runs he would have wanted in the ODI series against England but he remains a threat with the bat and the ball and assuming this match is on the same pitch as Thursday his off spin could be every bit as valuable as his batting contribution.
Betting
As with the other game on Friday, there is a bit of rain around Kingsmead on Friday but if we do get a full game in I’m not convinced we are going to get a high scoring one. I say that because this match will be on the same pitch which was used on Thursday and in that match five spinners were used and only one of them went for more than 7.5 runs per over and you would imagine the spin will be even more important on a wicket which should slow up when being used for the second time.
There were only 334 runs in that match on Friday and that was only because the final over of the first innings went for 24 runs which isn’t going to happen too often. Durban have an all international attack while the Sunrisers bowlers have been on the money at various times this season too. The run line for this one is 321.5 which needs 160 in the first innings to be beaten and that didn’t look like happening on Thursday. I’ll play the under in tougher conditions with a team backing up a game the day before on a wicket which should be harder for batting.
