We are heading towards the conclusion of the Premier League season and another round of matches begins on Saturday where six fixtures take place. We have to wait until Sunday for the title chasers to show their hand, so the attention will be on the bottom over the course of Saturday.
Unlike a normal Saturday in the Premier League, we have just the one TV game to enjoy over the course of the day. That comes in the early kick off and then the other matches take place in the 3pm traditional slot.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)
Leeds United v Newcastle United (12.30pm – BT Sport 1)
Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur
Chelsea v Nottingham Forest
Crystal Palace v AFC Bournemouth
Manchester United v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Southampton v Fulham

The television cameras head up to Elland Road for what is probably the biggest match of the day on Saturday. That sees Leeds United looking to come out of the bottom three when they host a Newcastle United, who will be looking to keep their top four hopes in their own hands. Only a win will do that for both teams which could make for an entertaining contest. Manchester United are the other team in control of their own top four destiny. They need to win at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers for that to remain the case.
Elsewhere, there is a huge clash in the race for European football at Villa Park where Aston Villa will be right in the race if they can come out on top when they host Tottenham Hotspur. Southampton will be relegated if they fail to beat Fulham at St Mary’s Stadium while Nottingham Forest will look to continue to pull away from danger when they head to the capital to take on Chelsea. Crystal Palace host AFC Bournemouth in the other match.
Betting
There isn’t a huge amount that I fancy over the course of the day on Saturday but one bet which I can’t ignore is over 2.5 goals in the match between Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. This is a match that in terms of potential European competition next season neither can afford to lose and we saw a few times last week in the various leagues that when teams can’t afford to lose we can get some crazy encounters and with this Spurs defence involved the chances of that here might only heighten.
In Ollie Watkins and Harry Kane we have two of the better marksmen in the Premier League on show here and it is hard to believe that these two defences won’t come under pressure throughout this encounter. I couldn’t trust this Tottenham defence as far as I could throw it but Villa have only kept one clean sheet in their last four matches. The sheer nature of this match should lead to goals so even though Villa don’t tend to get involved in shootouts I think there is more than enough to suggest that this will be one occasion where a Villa game goes over 2.5 goals.
