The final day of group action in the Metro Bank One Day Cup takes place on Tuesday as we look to finalise the teams who will move through to the knockout stages which get underway at the end of the week.
The two group winners move into the semi-final while second and third in each group will be into the quarter finals. We know one semi-finalist already but need to determine the other, while knockout spots are up for grabs so it could be worth checking out the live streams over the course of the day.
Group A
It is in Group A where we need to find out who will move straight into the semi-final. Leicestershire begin the day in top spot but they have played out their group campaign and are vulnerable to a Hampshire side who will move above them if they beat Kent by a sizeable margin on the Isle of Wight. That won’t be easy though because Kent begin the day in third spot and need to win to move into the knockout stages in the defence of their title. If Kent don’t win that match then we have a pre-quarter final knockout between Nottinghamshire and Lancashire at Sookholme where the winner will progress and the loser will be done. The other two matches are dead rubbers with Middlesex hosting Yorkshire at Radlett while Essex welcome Surrey to Chelmsford.

Group B
We already know that Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire will be the three teams qualifying from Group B. Warwickshire look good to move straight into the semi-final but will be guaranteed that position if they can win away to Sussex. Gloucestershire will host their quarter final if they can win their final group game. That comes at home to Durham but should they lose they will be on their travels in the quarter final. The other two matches are both dead rubbers when Glamorgan take on Northamptonshire in Cardiff and Derbyshire host Somerset at Derby.
Betting
There isn’t a huge amount that I like over the course of the day and I’m conscious not to get involved in the dead rubbers because in this tournament in particular anything can happen when those come to pass so it is only the ones which have a competitive edge on them which interests me in this set of games. The one which has betting potential is the one between Nottinghamshire and Lancashire at Sookholme, a club ground which is being used for the third time.
That makes me think the scoring isn’t going to go up and when you consider that the first two matches here have yielded first innings scores of just 254 and 244/7 the run line of 529.5 looks on the high side. That is even more the case when you factor in that the highest score Nottinghamshire have put together so far in the competition is 263/9 and it needed a final partnership of 38 to get them there. Lancashire have a decent attack so it is hard to see Nottinghamshire going any bigger against them but the Outlaws are solid enough with the ball. Add in that this could be a knockout game so runs on the board count for even more and I like the under here.
