An extended weekend in the NFL 2023 season continues on Sunday when we have the usual set of early games to enjoy. With matches being used for Saturday and Christmas Day it is a truncated Sunday of action but a potentially pivotal one too.
There might be fewer matches on Sunday but we still have a couple of them live on the TV to enjoy as well as the Red Zone show with all the key plays elsewhere. Certain bookmakers will stream the other games too.
1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)
Six matches take place in the early games on Sunday with the televised action focusing on the AFC wildcard race. Two teams with winning records who are chasing a spot meet when the Houston Texans take on the Cleveland Browns in a game neither can really afford to lose. There is also a divisional clash in these games as well. The Minnesota Vikings host the Detroit Lions in a game which could seal the NFC North title. Only a Vikings win will deny the Lions the title prior to Christmas.
That leaves us with four other matches first up with the Indianapolis Colts the only team of the either with a winning record. They head to the Atlanta Falcons with both teams looking for a win which would keep pace with the leaders of their division. Elsewhere, the Carolina Panthers host the Green Bay Packers, the New York Jets take on the Washington Commanders and the Tennessee Titans welcome the Seattle Seahawks to music city.

There are three matches left for the later slot in the proceedings. The TV game looks like an absolute cracker as the leaders of the AFC East, Miami Dolphins, play host to the frontrunners in the NFC East in the form of the Dallas Cowboys in a match which could easily be seen again in the Super Bowl if both can play to their best form for the remainder of the season. You would imagine points will be quite frequent in that encounter.
That leaves is with just two other matches to enjoy over the course of the evening. We have two Floridian teams who also lead their division battling it out when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers look to extend their lead in the NFC South when they host the AFC South leaders Jacksonville Jaguars. The other match on the night comes from Soldier Field where the Chicago Bears host the Arizona Cardinals in a match between two teams who are already preparing for next season.
Betting
The Miami Dolphins against the Dallas Cowboys is a match that is just screaming points at me. We have hit the business end of the season now and the Dolphins have already seen the Buffalo Bills win in their division this week so they’ll be keen to get over the line in this one. The Cowboys will be looking to pick up a win which would pile the pressure on the Philadelphia Eagles, who play in one of the three matches on Christmas Day.
These two offenses can be very potent and while Dallas have a reputation for being a good defence much of their better work came earlier in the season. The Buffalo Bills ran all over them last week and Miami have a potent run game of their own. You sense that Dallas might be chasing the scoreboard in this match so it might come down to Dak Prescott finding his receivers regularly. The point line for this one feels low at 47.5 so I’ll play the over.
