The Divisional round of the NFL 2023 Playoffs concludes with a crackerjack of a match on Sunday night when familiar postseason rivals Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs go at it one more time with a spot in the AFC Championship match the reward for the winner.
Usually when these two meet it is in that Championship match and it is in Kansas City where the Chiefs have been relentless but this time the Bills have the home field advantage which they will be looking to make full use of so they can progress to being a win from Super Bowl LVIII.
Buffalo Bills
Going into the final week of the regular season the Buffalo Bills still hadn’t secured their spot in the postseason but they were already the team nobody wanted to face in it. As it turns out their spot was soon guaranteed and then they beat the Miami Dolphins to win the division and maintain home advantage right through to next week. They beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the snow last week when their defence was excellent and they’ll be looking for similar here.
Josh Allen played excellently last week. Despite the tough conditions the quarterback completed 70% of his passes and the rushing game was in good order and a repeat of that offensive effort will have them going very well. The Buffalo defence has turned up to play in recent weeks as well and everything is looking good for the Bills heading into this match. The one concern is the depth on their roster. They can’t afford too many more injuries if they want to keep progressing.

Kansas City Chiefs
The champions face the toughest challenge in their title defence to date. They are regular visitors to both the AFC Championship game and the Super Bowl but usually they get there by playing at home. Now they have to go on the road and show the champion side of them and should they win this they’ll need to go away to a very good Baltimore side to get back to the Super Bowl, so the Chiefs need their very best football from here on in.
The problem the Chiefs have had this season, and the reason why they are having to go on the road here, is their offense hasn’t fired anything like to the extent we would expect it to. Receivers have been dropping balls and senior players haven’t been to the party but they are going to need those reliable players to show their best form from here on in. The Chiefs defence has been much tighter this season but even they’ll need to be at their best to stop Josh Allen in present form.
Betting
Hopefully these two teams show their best in this match and if they do then we are in for an absolute belter of a contest. My gut feeling is that the Buffalo Bills will get the job done on home soil and those who like them are getting a spread of less than a field goal to support them with but the Kansas City Chiefs don’t have the postseason record that they do for nothing and I just can’t bring myself to oppose them, even on the road.
If the Kansas City Chiefs are to come through this then I think Isaiah Pacheco will be a key man both in the dump off passes and in the running game but with his lines a little on the high side for me the bet I will go with is for the Chiefs running back to score a touchdown at any point in the contest. He has scored six touchdowns in his last five matches so certainly knows his way to the end zone and in a game of this magnitude you would imagine he’ll see tons of the ball. At 11/10 he looks too big to cross for a touchdown.
