We find out the quarter final line up at the French Open on Monday when the other half of the draw to the one which was in action at Roland Garros on Sunday take to the two main courts to play down to the last eight of the latest Grand Slam.
We didn’t really see an upset on Sunday with the major hitters all making it through and generally doing so in comfortable fashion and on Monday the likes of Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka, Elina Svitolina and Alexander Zverev will look to follow suit.
Day 8 Recap
After the drama of Saturday, it was a relatively tame day in terms of close matches on Sunday. Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek were the standout names on show and they dropped just 10 games between them in very quick wins. It was slightly harder work for the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner who both dropped the opening set before powering through to the quarter final while Ons Jabeur was another winner on the day.
We didn’t do a Sunday preview but we have had a couple of bets settled since our last preview and they were both winners with Varvara Gracheva easing past Irina Begu at a price much bigger than we would have had it as we said at the time and then thankfully Lorenzo Musetti got the amount of games we needed before he faded in the early hours of the morning in his match with Novak Djokovic so we’re ticking along nicely from a match betting point of view.
Philippe Chatrier Court
The two women’s matches get us started on the Philippe Chatrier Court on Monday and up first is the former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina who goes up against the semi-finalist at SW19 last year in Elina Svitolina. When they are done it will be the turn of Aryna Sabalenka to look to make it into a second Grand Slam quarter final of the year when she meets Emma Navarro. The men round off the day session when Novak Djokovic continues his title defence when he takes on Francisco Cerundolo. The night session has one match as ever and it sees Alexander Zverev taking on Holger Rune in what should be a tasty showdown.

Suzanne Longlen Court
The women get us going over on the Suzanne Lenglen Court on Monday as well when Jasmine Paolini looks to make it into the last eight at the expense of the unseeded Elina Avanesyan. When they are done one of the more intriguing matches on the day takes place when Alex de Minaur goes up against Daniil Medvedev in what could be a bit of a titanic tussle. The last women’s match on this court sees the home player Varvara Gracheva looking to continue to ride the home support positively when she takes on Mirra Andreeva before the men close out the schedule on this part of Roland Garros when Taylor Fritz takes on the man beaten in the last two finals here in Casper Ruud.
Betting
There isn’t a huge amount that takes my fancy over the course of the Monday play. I think the favourites in the women’s matches will all come through and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is fairly straightforward for all four of them. I do think the men’s matches will throw up some drama though but the odds and lines reflect how close three of them could be. The one where that isn’t so much the case though is the one between Novak Djokovic and Francisco Cerundolo.
The bet I like in this one is over 3.5 sets. Djokovic will do well to be at his very best in this match after the exertions of Saturday where he didn’t get finished until gone 3am local time so probably won’t have got to sleep until around 6am and although he has had a day off to recover, once the sleep pattern starts moving around it can become an issue. I don’t think Cerundolo will have enough consistency to win this match but I certainly think he has the firepower to be competitive and he can take a set. Even if Djokovic struggles and does lose I don’t see him losing in straight sets so I like over 3.5 sets here.
