Euro 2024 – Group C: Denmark vs Serbia Tips, TV and Betting Preview

While England look to prove that they are capable of winning this tournament in one of the final matches in Group C of Euro 2024, Denmark and Serbia will be battling it out to qualify for the next stage when they meet in Munich.

Denmark head into this match knowing that if they avoid defeat they will finish no worse than third in the group and go through. A win could see them top it. Serbia have to win to avoid a nervy wait to see if they make progress.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the ITV4 channel in the UK with the build-up beginning as part of the England game at 6.45pm. The kick off comes along at 8pm.

Denmark

It would be interesting to know the mood inside the Denmark camp because there is a feeling from afar that they have left four points out on the pitch and could already have basically sewn the group win up. Qualifying from this section when they were drawn against England was always going to be the priority heading to Germany but they were all over Slovenia in their opening game before the opening half an hour but couldn’t make the most of their dominance and really had the better of the game against England, without really creating anything.

You would imagine that Denmark will be a little more positive and committed in the forward areas here because they are only a goal away from potentially going home but even were they to draw they might only finish third in the group and would face a tricky task in the knockout stages. We know Denmark are solid defensively but the acid test is whether they can show enough creativity and composure at the top end of the pitch to get the win that they have more than enough talent on paper to get.

Serbia

It has to be said that for the second tournament in the space of 18 months, Serbia are in huge danger of having qualified but then exited the event without really landing a blow on proceedings. They have looked an ordinary side so far, comfortably the worst of the four in the group and yet if they win their last group game they are guaranteed to finish in a qualifying position where what has gone before has been forgotten. They have to show something here though else they will be remembered in a way they don’t want to be.

When you look at this Serbia side on paper you see some world class attacking talent in their ranks but when it is put together on a pitch it never seems to play well under pressure. The noise about them underachieving is beginning to grow louder so that should act as motivation for them to deliver the goods in this one. That attack just has to come to the party if they are going to win here but they probably need a bit of controlled performance in the middle of the park.

Team News

Denmark could be boosted by the return of a couple of senior players in the form of Thomas Delaney and Simon Kjaer who have recovered from injuries. The latter could come into the side but the former might have to do with a spot on the bench.

We already knew that Serbia would be without Filip Kostic after the Juventus winger was ruled out of the tournament with the knee injury he picked up against England. Dejan Stojkovic has promised that he will make changes for this one but hasn’t disclosed what they might be.

Betting

I’ll take a couple of bets in this match as well where once again I’m looking at the stats markets. The first one comes in the form of the corners where the line is only 9.5 but these two sides are capable of winning plenty of corners. Denmark were only bettered in that department by Belgium in qualifying and have already run up nine corners against Slovenia while Serbia have the wide players to get down the sides and win some as well. Serbia have to go on the attack in this match so they will have to send in plenty of shots and crosses which can lead to corners. These two teams generally pick up a number of corners and this one looks ripe for more than 9.5 of them.

There is also the potential for the Serbia side to completely lose their heads here. They were in this situation at the World Cup where they had to win their last game to have any chance of getting out of the group and when things weren’t going their way it all kicked off. They picked up six yellow cards on that occasion and we saw shades of that in the match against Slovenia where it looked like they were going out of the competition and they picked up four cards and if Denmark start to control this one and get on top of Serbia I wouldn’t be surprised if the French arbiter becomes a very busy man. He refereed the Serbians in qualifying earlier in the season and showed two yellows that night. I think he’ll have plenty of chance to add another to that here.
