Preview

The pick of the matches is probably the first one to kick off as Los Angeles FC, the form team in MLS right now, make the trip to Texas to take on a Houston Dynamo side who are always tough to beat. That match has been moved forward a couple of hours so it is a standalone game now too. The next two matches to kick off sees the bottom two sides in the Western Conference at home and looking for points desperately. San Jose Earthquakes are bottom of the table and host the Chicago Fire while Sporting Kansas City, a place above San Jose, host FC Dallas.

St Louis City are third from bottom in the Western Conference and are looking increasingly like they are going to miss out on the playoffs. They could turn those thoughts around when they go to the Colorado Rapids. LA Galaxy suffered defeat in a high profile ‘El Trafico’ on Thursday night and they will look to bounce back when they take on a Minnesota United whose form has completely deserted them in recent weeks. The other match comes from Providence Park where Portland Timbers will look to bounce back from defeat last time out when they host Nashville SC.

Betting

There were eight matches in this competition on Saturday night and not a single away side won in them. Four of those travelling teams got absolutely battered and I am not surprised at that. I actually fear the worst for the away teams here too because these sides have had next to no recovery time and have to travel on a short turnaround and go again and that isn’t easy. Some have an extra 24 hours on their opponent but even that isn’t always enough in this part of the world.

There are a few home teams I either don’t trust or who are way too short given their own short turnaround so after a positive night on Saturday which had a couple of winners I’ll just go with one bet on Sunday and that comes from Dick’s Sporting Goods park where a St Louis City SC side go looking for a first road win at a Colorado Rapids side who are 6-2-2 at home and who were at home in midweek so haven’t had to travel a yard. We know all about the altitude advantage that the Rapids have but they will also face a St Louis team missing two of their brighter attacking options of the season so far in Joao Klauss and Celio Pompeu which isn’t exactly ideal. Colorado have a lot going for them here, not least the ability to rotate players and stay fresh and the confidence of knowing they won 3-0 in St Louis a couple of weeks ago and I expect them to join the group of comfortable home winners this weekend.
