Paris 2024 Olympics – Tennis Sunday 28th July Tips and Betting Preview

After heavy rain in the Paris area on Saturday which meant that only 10 matches on the Paris 2024 Olympics tennis schedule could be played, there is a bumper day of tennis scheduled for us to enjoy over the course of a hectic Sunday.

Play was only possible on the two courts with a roof and while we saw the likes of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek make it through, a bunch of top names weren’t able to get onto court and they’ll hope to do it on Sunday along with the other side of the draw as the event looks to get back on schedule.

Men’s Singles

The early part of the extended schedule on Sunday contains the matches which couldn’t get played on Saturday but then the longer the day goes on the big names come along again with Casper Ruud headlining the day session and the defending champion Alexander Zverev beginning his title defence in the night one. I’ve already got two bets from the men’s draw outstanding from Saturday but there is one that I can’t ignore over the course of Sunday.

The comes in the form of the home player Gael Monfils, who will have been fully motivated for a big week anyway in front of his own fans, when he takes on Lorenzo Musetti who will be jetting in from Croatia where he played a final of an ATP Tour event as recently as Saturday evening, a match which ticked just over the three hour mark which he lost on a deciding set tiebreak and now he has to play halfway across Europe roughly 18 hours later. That feels like a tough schedule to me but he is definitely in the order of play so Monfils has to have a huge physical advantage in this match to go along with the Davis Cup like crowd support he is going to get. The 7/4 on ‘La Monf’ looks too big to refuse.

Women’s Singles

As with the men, the early part of the schedule on Sunday is made up of the matches which were unable to get played on Saturday but once we get later into the order of play we will see the likes of Coco Gauff, the Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, Caroline Wozniacki and others taking to the court on a day where there is a lot of women’s matches to be played. I have a bet outstanding from Saturday which didn’t get played and I’ll add one more to that.

That comes in the form of Clara Burel to beat Katerina Siniakova. The latter is the higher ranked player of the two but in her last match she lost to someone ranked outside the top 600 in the world rankings and that has to be a confidence killer if ever there was one. Siniakova might have more than one eye on the women’s doubles this week where she looks to have every chance of winning the gold medal alongside Barbora Krejcikova and maybe not so much this match. Burel is in front of a home crowd so she is going to be doubly motivated to perform here and if she can stay solid and not do too much wrong I think the French player can come through here.

Doubles

There is plenty of doubles action on the schedule on Sunday even though the singles stuff is so far behind and having seen the Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz pairing make it through on Saturday we will be looking out for the Dan Evans and Andy Murray pair on Sunday to see if they can get into the second round or whether Murray will be playing the final match of his career here. In terms of a bet, with so much singles on the card I’m going to focus on the solo stuff and keep my doubles powder dry for later in the week.
