Paris 2024 Olympics – Tennis Monday 29th July Tips and Betting Preview

The Paris 2024 Olympics tennis competition continues at Roland Garros on Monday when all five draws are in action for the first time this week on a day where two of the greatest of all time meet in a marquee matchup.

We saw some really dramatic tennis on Sunday and if we are expecting anything different on Monday then we are likely to be disappointed. We have a fantastic schedule on show and plenty of great matches to get stuck into.

Men’s Singles

There is a decent schedule on show in the men’s singles on Monday where the headline attraction is the blockbuster clash between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. The Olympic singles dream will end for one of them on the Philippe Chatrier Stadium on Monday. That match will get plenty of attention but there is also the likes of Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and the French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz on a lit up schedule.

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the day in the men’s draw and while I expect Francisco Cerundolo to run out of gas at some point, I’m not convinced it comes on Monday when he takes on Ugo Humbert who is only 5-6 on clay after his win in the first round. Prior to that, he had lost six of his last seven on the surface and actually in three of the last four years including this one, he has had a losing record on clay. Cerundolo comes in here having won the title in Croatia last week and I would be surprised if he can go the distance this week off the back of that but he had a comfortable win on Sunday and is clearly much more comfortable on clay. He will have the crowd to deal with but he’ll have gone up against a Davis Cup like crowd before and I think he can win this with a bit to spare.

Women’s Singles

The entire last 32 of the women’s draw will be played out across the grounds at Roland Garros on Monday with the pick of the matches probably the one between Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina which takes place in the evening session. Elsewhere, the world number one Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Paolini, Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova and Caroline Wozniacki are all on court while Angelique Kerber continues her final tournament too.

It is that big match which catches my interest on Monday as I think Elina Svitolina is the one to be on here. She is an honorary French woman now after she married Gael Monfils and I think she’ll have the support on her side. Pegula skipped the European clay season and while she is acceptable on the surface I certainly don’t think it is her strongest. I think Svitolina is much more comfortable on it and she has won many more matches on clay in recent times and this feels like a great chance to do another against an opponent who hadn’t played a clay match for the best part of four months prior to the first round.

Doubles

After the crazy drama of the doubles match featuring Andy Murray on Sunday, there are plenty of doubles matches on show in the men’s, women’s and the mixed competitions as we look to catch up after the rain of the opening day. The entire first round of all three draws is due to be completed at the end of Monday and there is a mixed doubles match that catches my eye where the number two seeds Ellen Perez and Matthew Ebden go up against Marcel Granollers and Sara Sorribes Tormo.

I think the Australian pairing are the ones to be on here. They have paired up before at three different Grand Slams which feels significant whereas the Spanish pair team up for the first time. There probably isn’t a great deal between the two male players here but I believe Ellen Perez is a much more solid doubles player than her Spanish rival. Generally in doubles the net play is key and it isn’t really the strongest suit of Granollers and definitely isn’t the strong part of the Sorribes Tormo game. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Australian pair go very deep here and they are the pick for me.
