Paris 2024 Olympics – Tennis Sunday 4th August Tips and Betting Preview

The Paris 2024 Olympics tennis event draws to a close on Sunday when the last three matches of the event takes place on the Philippe Chatrier Court at Roland Garros as we crown the last two gold medal winners.

We saw Qinwen Zheng win the women’s gold medal on Saturday while John Peers and Matthew Ebden won the men’s doubles and on Sunday the men’s singles gold and women’s doubles medals are up for grabs.

Men’s Singles

Just two remain in the men’s singles as the Olympic final will be a repeat of the Wimbledon final of three weeks ago when the top two seeds battle it out as Novak Djokovic goes up against a Carlos Alcaraz who is looking to win a tournament on this course for the second time in just eight weeks having won the French Open here back in June. Djokovic has never won the Olympic gold but he is guaranteed a first Olympic silver medal whatever happens here but make no mistake about it he wants to be on top of the podium.

You would think with two genuine top acts on show that we are guaranteed a great final and this tournament deserves that but I am not convinced that it will get it because based on what we’ve seen this week Alcaraz just looks untouchable. If anyone is going to stop him it would be Djokovic but on this surface I just think the superior movement of the Spaniard will be too much for the Serbian. The fact it is only a three set match rather than the five setter it used to be gives Djokovic a bit more of a chance but Alcaraz made him look ordinary at Wimbledon. I wasn’t going to get involved in this final but the odds against on Alcaraz winning in straight sets has lured me in. I just think he moves too well and is playing aggressive tennis that even Djokovic won’t be able to contain. I’ll take 2-0 Alcaraz here.

Women’s Doubles

We have the bronze medal match and the gold medal match in the women’s doubles either side of the men’s final. The bronze medal will be battled for by the Czech pair of Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova who will meet the Spanish duo of Sara Sorribes Tormo and Cristina Bucsa in what should be a decent match. I actually thought the Czech partnership would make the final of this event but looking at both pairings there doesn’t appear to be too much between them so nothing stands out in this final.

The gold medal will be played for by the Italian duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini who meet the neutral nation pair of Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider. I’ve been keen on the Italians for a while. It was obvious throughout the year that they had paired up in doubles possibly with this in mind and they have won the titles in Linz and Rome and made the French Open final. This is a pair who are comfortable together, have the good mix of doubles prowess and singles strength and look in good shape to win the gold medal. This is the first time the ‘Russian’ pair have played together and they pulled off a mighty upset when they took care of the seasoned Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova and they certainly aren’t without a shot but we saw in the men’s event that doubles specialism counts for a lot and I think the Italian pair will have too much.
