Paris 2024 Olympics – Men’s Football Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

We know the four teams who will play for medals in the Paris 2024 Olympics men’s football competition and on Monday we will find out who will play for which colour when the two semi-finals take place.

All eyes will be on the host nation France to see if they can set up a gold medal match but all four teams will be eager to pick up the win which will send them into the final so we should be in for a decent evening of football.

Morocco vs Spain (17.00)

The opening semi-final of the competition might see a bit of revenge on the menu as Spain take on the team who knocked them out of the last senior World Cup when a decent looking Morocco side stand between them and the final.

Morocco probably went into the tournament a little under the radar with the record of the African nations in this competition being fairly poor in recent times but they have certainly made the most of their opportunity as they have overcome more fancied contenders in Argentina and USA so far, the latter of which they absolutely dominated. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Spain in this tournament yet but the way they cruised past a good looking Japan side in the quarter final suggests that they are a team who are very much warming to the task so we should be in for a corker of an opening semi-final. The one thing that has been evident with matches involving these two sides is that each one has gone over 2.5 goals and with two very potent attacking units going up against defences which do offer up chances I don’t see why that is going to change here. Uzbekistan and Dominican Republic both scored against Spain while Ukraine bagged twice against Morocco. This feels like a game where the attacks will have the better of it so I like over 2.25 goals in this first semi-final.

France vs Egypt (20.00)

The host nation France have made it all the way through to the semi-final and in truth they haven’t really been tested too much. They are overwhelming favourites to make the final with the surprise package Egypt standing in the way between them and a shot at the gold medal.

Thierry Henry’s men have ridden their luck a little bit at times but they have won all four matches so far and are yet to concede a goal and it would be a surprise if those trends change here. If you wanted to be critical of France it would be that they haven’t put sides away in the emphatic nature that they might have been expected to. Egypt are very much surprise semi-finalists. In many ways they have been opportunists in this tournament as they took advantage of Spain resting everyone in the final group game between the two to come top of their section and then they edged out Paraguay on penalties in the last eight but you sense unless there is a dramatic improvement they will be playing for the bronze medal later in the week. The only game Egypt have scored more than one goal in was when Spain rested a number of starters. This feels like a match France will dominate but with this being their fifth game in 12 days they might not go as mental on this Egypt side as expected so France to win and under 3.5 goals feels like the best way to get some value into a punt on this second semi-final.
