The second part of the NFL 2024 Monday Night Football double header for week four comes from Ford Field as the Detroit Lions play host to the Seattle Seahawks in what should be an entertaining closer to the games.
Both these teams have winning records going into the match so confidence should be high. Detroit have already seen Minnesota win again in their division while the Seahawks will be looking to go 4-0 so this one is very nicely set up.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have been feeding on the NFC West so far this season with their two wins both coming against teams in that division in the form of the Los Angeles Rams in the opening week of the season and then the Arizona Cardinals last week. In between that they were beaten by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but at 2-1 for the year with a home match to come here the Lions should be satisfied by the start they have made to the defence of the NFC North title.
The Lions probably haven’t been quite as potent on offense as they would have wanted to be at the start of the season and their passing game will certainly be tested here but they do still have a passing game wrecker in their own defence and if Aidan Hutchinson can run riot then he could rip the game up and allow the Lions offense the luxury of remaining slightly below their best and still getting the job done here.

Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks will have been delighted to their start to the season. They are 3-0 for the campaign and generally have looked pretty good. You always want to make a positive start when a new coach comes in and the Seahawks have certainly done that. Until last week when they came up against the Miami Dolphins they hadn’t dominated a match but you can’t argue with winning matches especially as you would imagine regular improvement will be made as the adjustments to a new coach happen.
The Seattle defence has ranked highly so far but you have to consider that they haven’t really faced a particularly strong quarterback so they are entitled to be tested much more in this match so it will be interesting to see whether that department of their game holds up. If it does and if this offensive line can give Geno Smith good protection then the Seahawks could easily get themselves into a position to go 4-0 but that latter part could be the key factor in determining the outcome here.
Betting
This should be a good end to the week but I’m a little surprised that a Detroit Lions home game has a point line of 45.5. I guess that is down to the defensive numbers that the Seattle Seahawks have put up this season but we have to consider the offenses that they have faced. They took on the Denver Broncos in their first game with their rookie quarterback Bo Nix, New England Patriots in their second game who look offensively weak and then a combination of Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle against Miami last week.
I think it is fair to say that Jared Goff is by far the best quarterback that Seattle have come up against and not just him but the Detroit run game is top class so I would expect the Lions to put points up on the board here. You would imagine a hit or miss Detroit secondary is going to struggle to contain the likes of DK Metcalf in the passing game though so if Seattle can keep Geno Smith upright then it would be a shock if they can’t put points on the board too. These two teams met last year and there were 68 points and I’m not sure enough has changed to get less than two-thirds of that total here.
