Premier League 2024-25 – Saturday 5th October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The final Premier League weekend before the second international break of the season gets underway on Saturday when seven of the 10 matches are played out on a day where the three title contenders are all on show.

We are back into the usual groove with regards to the Saturday schedule when you consider we have a TV game at the start of the day and at the end of it. The matches in the middle carry the usual updates in all the regular places.

Early Kick Off

We begin the day in the capital and at Selhurst Park specifically where Liverpool are once again getting the early kick off when they make the trip to London to take on Crystal Palace. The pressure is beginning to build on Oliver Glasner and his Palace side as they go in search of their opening win of the season. Liverpool start the weekend on top of the pile and will be guaranteed another fortnight there if they win this game so it will be interesting to see whether this one follows the form book or whether there is an early kick off upset in the making.

3pm Matches

The champions Manchester City are on show in the traditional 3pm slot on Saturday as they look for their first three points since the injury to Rodri took place. Fulham will be the team looking to be the latest to take something off of the champions. The team who finished second behind City in the table last season are also on show when Arsenal welcome former keeper Aaron Ramsdale and his Southampton side to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal got the job done against Leicester last week but will want things to be much more straightforward here. Southampton will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at Bournemouth last week where Russell Martin cut a very unhappy figure.

West Ham United will be looking to get what has been a bang ordinary start to the season back on track when they welcome an Ipswich Town side who in six Premier League outings this season have only been beaten by Liverpool and Manchester City. Brentford are the fast starters in the league but not necessarily the best finishers and they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the capital while in the other match Leicester City will go in search of their first win back in the Premier League when they host a buoyant Bournemouth.

Late Game

The action concludes at Goodison Park where Everton will go in search of successive home wins when they welcome Newcastle United to Merseyside. The Newcastle away record is beginning to come under real scrutiny having been their undoing for a good while now and it will be interesting to see if that can change at a venue where they were well beaten last season. Everton have had a problem keeping hold of a lead this season but did get a much needed win over Crystal Palace last week and it will be interesting to see if that has boosted their confidence going into a seemingly winnable game.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet on Saturday afternoon and we have to wait until the final match of the day for it to come along. When it does it involves Everton and Newcastle United and I think Everton with the plus Asian handicap looks a decent thing here. Newcastle are incredibly hard to beat on their own patch but when they leave Tyneside they drop off alarmingly. Their away displays this season have seen them pick up a point at Bournemouth in a game they would have lost but for a dreadful VAR decision, win 2-1 at Wolves where they were second best until two wonder strikes came along and then in their last away game at Fulham they stunk Craven Cottage out.

I have to take Newcastle on here and it feels like a good time to do it with Everton. They came from behind to win against Crystal Palace last week and probably should have beaten Leicester the week before and definitely should have won two weeks ago against Bournemouth. That meltdown isn’t going to happen at Goodison Park very often, especially now that Jarrad Branthwaite is back in the side. The Dwight McNeil to Dominic Calvert-Lewin link up is working well for Everton and this is a Toon side who are going to be without Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson. I would probably have left a level ball alone here but with the +0.25 Asian line on the Everton side I can’t ignore that.

Tips

Back Everton (+0.25AH) to beat Newcastle United for a 3/10 stake at 1.90 with Bet365
