MLS Cup Playoffs 2024 – Conference Finals Tips and Betting Preview

We will find out who will compete in the MLS Cup Final on Saturday night when the two Conference finals are played out over the course of a night of football which is likely to have all the hallmarks of the MLS Cup Playoffs about it.

Both the Eastern Conference title and the Western Conference one will be won and lost across a night in which four teams will go in search of the win that they need to ensure they are competing for the big one next weekend.

Orlando City SC vs New York Red Bulls (00.30)

We begin with the Eastern Conference final where Orlando City SC play host to New York Red Bulls in a match which will see the home side make their way to MLS Cup Final for the first time or the visitors to get back there.

Orlando City could be on the verge of club history here but I maintain that they are not exactly rushing to the finish line. They did show much more offensive intent against Atlanta United last week though and a repeat of that will give them a good chance here. New York Red Bulls have been to Columbus Crew and New York City FC and won in this postseason so a trip to Orlando isn’t going to hold any fears for a side who suddenly have a lot of attacking options at their disposal and who have generally been quite tight in this postseason. Orlando certainly don’t lack for attacking players either so I fancy both teams to score here. Both sides have shown intent to win games rather than sit back and let it happen and if that trend continues here both should find the net in what could be a better match than it looks on paper.

LA Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders (03.00)

The home team of the MLS Cup Final will come from the Western Conference final which is the second match of the night as the new favourites to win MLS Cup, LA Galaxy, play host to a Seattle Sounders side who are looking to dispose of the other Los Angeles team having gotten rid of Los Angeles FC last weekend.

This match pits the best defence in the MLS in the Sounders against arguably the best offense in the competition in the Galaxy and it will be interesting to see how this one plays out. While Seattle have the best defence in the league, they couldn’t score in either of the regular season matches between the pair and given how the Galaxy attack has improved the longer the campaign has gone on and looks at its most rampant right now, if Seattle don’t score here you’ve got to think they are going to be in big trouble. No other team apart from the Galaxy has won an MLS match here this season and while I am full of respect for the Sounders at this stage of the season I just can’t ignore this Galaxy front four. I think this is their time and they look a perfectly acceptable bet at 19/20.
