The second leg of the double header in the Global Super League competition on Sunday sees the home side Guyana Amazon Warriors back on show when they go up against Hampshire in a key game in the tournament.
Both these teams have a win and a loss on their ledger so far and if three wins are needed to reach the final then they go into this one knowing that this is a contest they can’t afford to lose, which should provide a competitive outing.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
I think it is fair to suggest that the Guyana Amazon Warriors were the favourites for the tournament going into the event and after the first match it looked like they were going to justify that billing without a problem but they hit a kink in the road last time out which has left them with some work to do and put them under a bit of pressure here. Whether it was a bad day at the office or some complacency towards the end of their match against Victoria, it came at the wrong time and now they have to put things right.
To be fair to the Guyana batters, they could have been forgiven for thinking that they had done their job in the previous game when they had put a decent looking score up on the board but their bowlers really struggled in the second half of their defence of that score. I guess it could be said that dew might have been an issue but this team have played enough on this ground to have been able to deal with that so they need an improved bowling showing here if they are going to win the match.
Hampshire
Hampshire are in a funny position in the tournament so far. They have a win and a loss on their account and they won the match they should have lost and lost the match they really should have won. The thinking can be nice and clear here though because they really have to win this game if they are going to make the final of the competition. There might be a route in with two wins and a decent net run rate but a loss here would require a monster win in their last game.
There are positives and negatives for Hampshire heading into this make or break match. The positive is that their bowlers have been on song in both matches so far. That isn’t a surprise as they have a number of bowlers who fit these conditions nicely. The negative is that their batting hasn’t really got going and now they are up against the bowling unit which has the potential to be the best in the competition on these pitches. That batting needs to come to the party in a big way here.

Key Players
Moeen Ali showed all of his class with the bat in the last game and with Hampshire having a number of left handers at the top of their order there is every chance he will be a key man with the ball here too. A big showing from him against a team he knows will serve the Amazon Warriors well.
Benny Howell delivered a good showing for Hampshire in the last game even in defeat. He is batting at six which is going to be a key position here but his four overs with the ball in conditions where the ball sticks in the pitch make him very dangerous.
Betting
This hasn’t been a particularly high scoring tournament and I’m not sure anything is going to change in that regard here. These are two pretty decent bowling units who in the main don’t give a lot away and you would have to think that this match is going to be on the same pitch as the earlier one was as with no game on Monday it doesn’t make much sense to play this one on a fresh wicket. That will make the run scoring harder to come by as well.
The run line for this one is 273.5 which I have to say is a little on the low side of where I am comfortable betting but the fact that this is going to be a used pitch makes me happier to get involved. Three of the four matches that these two have played in this tournament have gone under this line and that is very much a positive. There is a lot of spin on show across this match and bowlers adept in taking the pace off the ball. I don’t think we get to 273.5 runs here.
