Christmas is approaching and that is evident in the NFL 2024 season where we have Saturday action for the first time this term with a double header which begins at the Arrowhead Stadium where the Kansas City Chiefs host the Houston Texans.
This is a match which pits two division leaders in the AFC against each other in a clash which we could very well see once again in January so there is a chance for both sides to lay a bit of a marker down here.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have got the AFC West title in the bag and now it is all about securing the number one seed in the Conference heading into the playoffs now. Not only do they have a chance to preserve their status in that race here but they have the chance to put the pressure fully on the Buffalo Bills later in the weekend. In a season where injuries have impacted most teams in the league, the early the Chiefs can sew up the number one seed and have the chance to rest some players with knocks the better.
It is only the Bills who have beaten the Chiefs this season and Kansas City are undefeated on home soil this term as well so they are more than entitled to think that they have enough reason to be confident heading into this match. The pattern in most of these Chiefs wins have been fairly consistent, they have been tight wins where the offense has delivered when it has been called to but in the main the defence has set the victories up.

Houston Texans
The Houston Texans have already made a successful defence of their AFC South title and so the only thing at play for them until the postseason is improving their standing within the AFC Conference. They are currently the fourth seeds but they could end the night in the third seed spot if they win here and the result in the second part of the evening goes their way. Houston are 4-3 on their travels this season and 9-5 overall so they are going along nicely.
Houston have won their last two matches and should go into this match with their confidence fairly high when you consider that they have an offense which can be very potent but a defence which rarely gets torn apart too often. This isn’t a free hit for them given that they could get the number three seed but it is a chance on a huge platform to show that when January comes along they can trouble the biggest and best sides.
Betting
The Houston Texans are having another fine season but I do still think there is a bit of a gulf between them and the Kansas City Chiefs and I do expect that to be shown over the course of this match. The one thing the Chiefs are is masters of winning close matches so even if the Texans hang around for some of this contest I’m not convinced it will do them much good and as a result of that I’m happy to side with the Chiefs with just a field goal to give up.
Houston have lost to the New York Jets and the Tennessee Titans recently, which shows that they can be vulnerable to poor teams and their offensive line seems to be weakening by the game in terms of the sacks they are allowing. That is a huge red flag against this Kansas City defence which by and large stops teams scoring even though they can be guilty of allowing a fair number of yards. The Chiefs offense knows how to get the job done and they will know this is a chance to lay a marker down and I expect them to do exactly that.
