Big Bash League 2024-25 – Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes Tips and Betting Preview

We are into the final stages of the Big Bash League regular season and we get closer to the end of it on Thursday when the champions Brisbane Heat look to move into the top four when they take on the Hobart Hurricanes at The Gabba.

The Brisbane Heat have their destiny in their own hands going into this match but that won’t be the case if they slip up here. Hobart Hurricanes can guarantee a top two finish with a win here so there is plenty on this one.

Brisbane Heat

The Brisbane Heat will probably have wanted to fare a little better than 3-4 with a washout from their opening eight matches in the defence of their title but the good thing is that despite only winning three games, they are still in control of their destiny which with two games left of the regular season is all any team will want. They are going to need to up their game in most departments if they are to set up a crack at defending their title successfully in the finals but they did exactly that at this time last year.

The Heat did win their opening two matches so they have only won one of the last five completed games and they go into this one off the back of having their bowling unit absolutely taken to the cleaners in Adelaide last time out. To be fair to Brisbane, that is unlike them as that has generally been the more reliable side of their team. They need to be back on song here else their batting is going to need to go very well indeed.

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes have been without doubt the success story of this tournament so far. They were absolutely drubbed in their opening game but since then they have gone unbeaten and are assured of a top four finish. Their task now is to find one more win from their last two regular season matches to ensure a top two spot in the table and guarantee two cracks at making the final. If they win their last two matches they will host the Qualifier 1 and then the final should they win that.

The Hurricanes have been brutal and ruthless with the bat this season, even when they have carried injuries and looked a batter or two light. That unit might feel that they are getting the Heat bowling at the right time. While Hobart have been ruthless with the bat, it has actually been with the ball where they have really impressed. There hasn’t been a weak link in their bowling department this season and if they can have another good week or so then Hobart could finally be the champions of this tournament.

Key Players

Marnus Labuschagne plays for the Brisbane Heat for the first time this season in this match and he’ll be expected to deliver the goods with the bat but as much as that will be needed his spin bowling could come into play here too.

Tim David once again showed his brilliance at the end of the match in the last game and the Hobart Hurricanes will be looking to their finisher to get the job done on a ground which certainly isn’t going to be too big for him.

Betting

I think this is the time to be on the Brisbane Heat. They go into the match having to win to keep control of their own destiny whereas even if the Hobart Hurricanes lose this match they can still secure a top two finish in their last game which comes against the Melbourne Stars in the final game of the regular season meaning they will know exactly how many they need to win it by to finish top of the table. Subconsciously that could lead to a lift in the intensity for the Hobart Hurricanes.

Even if it doesn’t, they looked at least one batter light in their last match and potentially two and now they are without the services of Billy Stanlake for the remainder of the season too. When you add in that the Brisbane Heat have their two giant batters back for this one and a key all-rounder in Paul Walter then I think we have to go with the Heat to get the job done on home soil. There isn’t anything special about the price but we know they will be all out to win which helps convince me to get on here.
