The league phase of the Caribbean Premier League concludes with two double headers on Saturday and Sunday with the opening match of two in the first one seeing the Jamaica Tallawahs taking on the St Lucia Zouks in Florida on Saturday.
Jamaica know that whatever happens this weekend they will be in the top two at the end of the season so they will enjoy two goes at the cherry to get into the final while St Lucia need one more win to make it into the playoffs and two big wins combined with a Guyana defeat in their last game will see the Zouks up to second.
Jamaica Tallawahs
The best side in the competition so far has been the Tallawahs and when you look at their squad that is no surprise. They have a powerful and deep batting line up and they have had a very solid bowling attack whatever the conditions are that they have faced.
Dale Steyn has left the group now which leaves a bit of a hole in their attack so the likes of Andre Russell, Shakib-al-Hasan and Garey Mathurin will need to make sure they are counted. Although they have been winning without big contributions from Chris Gayle I’m sure they would prefer it if their captain lights up Florida here.
St Lucia Zouks
The Zouks made up a lot of ground when they won three of their four home matches last week and now they are within touching distance of being assured a place in the playoffs. A combination of solid bowling and expansive batting has worked really well for them in recent times and we can expect much more of the same.
St Lucia have lost the services of Morne Morkel and David Miller now as they are on international duty but they weren’t missed too much in the last two matches although Miller’s absence does mean that the Zouks’ top three of Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher and Shane Watson need to get them off to a good start.
Betting
We’ve seen in the two matches so far in Florida how there is the potential for surprising results. Most sides in this competition build their sides to work well in their home matches and this wicket doesn’t really suit anyone, it is just flat and there to be attacked on. With that in mind I’m going to leave the match betting alone once again and head for the side markets.
I’m really surprised we can get a sixes line of 12.5 here. We have seen the wicket play very well in both matches so far and given that this one will have to last two matches I’m expecting something rock hard and flat for this first game and that should really appeal to the batsmen.
These are probably the two biggest hitting sides in the tournament and with Steyn away neither bowling attack is amazingly good so I’m expecting the big hits to flow on what are pretty short boundaries. If Gayle comes off this line will be obliterated but even if he doesn’t there are plenty of hitters backing him up so 12.5 looks a line a shade too low.
