ATP Cincinnati 2022: Western & Southern Open Tennis – Quarter Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The Western and Southern Open has reached the quarter final stage with all four matches being played at the ATP Cincinnati Masters 1000 event on Friday with spots in the semi-finals on Saturday the reward for the winners.

We have a mixture of top class players and one or two surprise packages among the eight players remaining in the tournament but with just two unseeded players left in the cream is rising to the top in Cincinnati.

Center Court

Three of the four quarter finals take place on the main court on Friday and after a women’s quarter final it will be the number one seed Daniil Medvedev who will look to make progress to the last four. He takes on a Taylor Fritz who is deep in search of a second American Masters 1000 title in the year after coming out on top in Indian Wells earlier in the season. When they are done Stefanos Tsitsipas will look to make it through to the semi-final for the second year in a row when he takes on John Isner. The other quarter final on this court comes in the night session where British number one Cameron Norrie goes up against the Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz.

Grandstand

It is predominantly doubles and women’s action on the second court on Friday but there is a men’s match on it as well. We have to wait until the night session for it to come around and when it does Felix Auger-Aliassime will look to make it through to the semi-final. He had to save two match points against Jannik Sinner on Thursday evening to make it to this into this quarter final. His opponent will be Borna Coric who was the player to took care of Rafael Nadal earlier in the week as he build up his return from injury.

Betting

The bet I like comes in the opening match of the day where I expect a fairly lengthy contest between Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz, one which can have more than 22.5 games. These two are pretty competent behind their serve and I expect that to be a feature of this match so there is every chance we may well get a tiebreak if not two along the way here. Fritz has developed a seriously good all-round game over the last year or so though, so much so that he should really have been a Wimbledon semi-finalist last month.

The one thing I like about the American is he’s always prepared to dig in and fight out a win and that is something you can always level at Medvedev as well so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this one turns into a right old ding dong. If this goes three sets there is no way a 22.5 game line doesn’t get covered but given that something like a 75 64 outcome also covers I do like the over here. Three of the four sets Medvedev have played this week have gone 7-5 while two of the three sets in Fritz’s win over Andrey Rublev on Thursday did likewise so I like over 22.5 games here.
