The third round of the ATP Indian Wells competition begins on Sunday when the seeded players can meet in the BNP Paribas Open for the first time as the opening Masters 1000 event of the year continues in the desert.
Given that the seeds can face each other from here on in the quality of the tournament should begin to rise, especially as everyone left in the competition has won at least one match and have got a feel for conditions.
Stadium 1
Three men’s matches take place on Stadium 1 on Sunday and the first two open up the day session. The opening match sees the US Open finalist Casper Ruud taking on the Wimbledon quarter finalist Cristian Garin in an interesting looking match. When they are done Alexander Zverev will continue his rise back up the rankings when he meets Emil Ruusuvuori. The other match on this court comes along in the night session where the form man of the moment Daniil Medvedev will look to make it through to the last 16 when he goes up against Ilya Ivashka.

Best of the Rest
The majority of the other matches come along on Stadium 2 and Stadium 3 on Sunday. Just the one match comes along on the former and it sees Frances Tiafoe looking to make progress at the hands of Jason Kubler. Over on Stadium 3 the 2021 champion Cameron Norrie gets the action underway when he takes on the qualifier Taro Daniel before Australian Open semi-finalist Karen Khachanov will go up against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The final men’s match on this court sees Andrey Rublev taking on a rejuvenated Ugo Humbert and then out on Stadium 4 two unseeded players meet when Alejandro Tabilo takes on Jordan Thompson.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the day on Sunday and we have to wait right until the end of the play for it to come along when two men have a big opportunity in front of them when Alejandro Tabilo meets Jordan Thompson. This could easily get lost in the schedule given that it is out on Stadium 4 under the lights but it could be a very competitive match however at the prices I’m happy to take the Chilean who has come through qualifying and then won two matches in the main draw.
Tabilo has beaten Maximilian Marterer and Maxime Cressy without dropping a set and while neither are elite level opponents, he isn’t exactly facing one here. Thompson caused a stir in this tournament when he took care of Stefanos Tsitsipas in the previous round but the Greek looked to be struggling with a shoulder issue and his first round opponent, Gael Monfils, was returning from a period out with injury. On a quick hard court I’d expect Thompson to continue his positive run but on these slow courts with a potential comedown from the highs of a win over Tsitsipas on the main court to playing in front of few supporters on an outside court, Tabilo looks the value to take advantage.
