ATP Indian Wells 2023: BNP Paribas Open – Day 7 Tips and Betting Preview

The ATP Indian Wells competition continues on Tuesday when the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open is played out in the desert on the first day of the opening Masters 1000 event of the season where both halves of the draw play on the same schedule.

That means we get to see the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Felix Auger-Aliassime and many more on show on what looks like the best card of the week so far with spots in the quarter finals up for grabs.

Stadium 1

We open up the action on the main court with two men’s matches, the first of which we are used to seeing much later in a tournament when the man of the moment Daniil Medvedev takes on an Alexander Zverev who might just be better suited to the conditions below them. When they are done the defending champion Taylor Fritz continues his title defence. The unseeded Marton Fucsovics will be the man looking to end his title defence. The other men’s match on this court comes in the night session and it sees the number one seed Carlos Alcaraz going up against the British player Jack Draper who had a good win over Andy Murray on Monday evening.

Best of the Rest

Four of the other five men’s matches take place on Stadium 2 and Stadium 3 on Tuesday. On Stadium 2 the third match onto the court sees Frances Tiafoe looking to see off the qualifier Alejandro Tabilo while the last match on that court looks a cracker as Tommy Paul takes on Felix Auger-Aliassime. On Stadium 3 the standout match of the day sees Andrey Rublev facing the 2021 champion Cameron Norrie before Jannik Sinner looks to get the better of Stan Wawrinka. The other match takes place on Stadium 4 and sees Alejandro Davidovich Fokina taking on the qualifier Cristian Garin.

Betting

We’re in decent form this week so I’ll go with two over the course of the day. The first one comes straight out of the gate where I fancy Alexander Zverev is massively overpriced to beat Daniil Medvedev. A lot was made of the record of Medvedev here prior to the tournament. He has never been past this round here and there were shades of why in his last match against Ilya Ivashka where he was teetering on the edge of losing his head because of the slow conditions. They are not going to be a great deal faster in this match so a battle hardened Zverev, whose clay exploits suggests he will be advantaged more by the conditions here, could well be the one to put him out of his misery. Zverev is still waiting for that big breakthrough since his return from that horrible injury he sustained at the French Open. There appears to be no fitness issues with him so if he can stay in his own bubble he could take this one at a big price.

One who isn’t quite a price is Tommy Paul who has been very good to us so far this week and who I fancy can come through against a Felix Auger-Aliassime who didn’t look anything close to his best on Monday despite seeing off Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets. There was a weird early incident where he cut his chin with his racquet and never really looked composed after that. You would imagine he’ll be a little more settled here but Paul is in great form and showed his confidence when he dropped the first set against Hubert Hurkacz in the previous round but powered back to win. The longer the FAA match against Cerundolo went on the more his serve started to desert him. That would concern me so I’ll take Paul to come through this one.

Tips

Back A.Zverev to beat D.Medvedev for a 3/10 stake at 4.20 with Paddy Power

Back T.Paul to beat F.Auger-Aliassime for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
