ATP Miami Open Tennis 2025 – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of the ATP Miami Open sees the first round of the tournament concluding around the grounds at the Hard Rock Stadium as the players yet to get their campaign underway look to set up a showdown with a seeded star.

Although we have to wait another day for the top ranked players to enter the competition, there are plenty of exciting rising stars and a few experienced ones on the way down to keep us entertained throughout Thursday.

Stadium

It is the day which just the two ATP matches are on the main court and they begin both of the sessions. The day session gets underway with the two big serving American players thrashing it out when Christopher Eubanks takes on Reilly Opelka for a spot in the second round. When the night session comes along two of the brightest rising stars in the game take centre stage when the Brazilian ace Joao Fonseca goes up against the home hotshot Learner Tien.

Grandstand

Three matches take place over on the Grandstand from the men’s draw and they are the middle three on the day so after a women’s match is completed we have an all-Japanese clash between Kei Nishikori and Yoshihito Nishioka. When they have finished that match Jordan Thompson will look to make the second round when he goes up against a home player in Marcos Giron who ran well in Indian Wells last week. The last of the matches over on the Grandstand from the ATP draw sees another American player in Jenson Brooksby meeting Roman Safiullin.

Butch Buchholz

There are three more men’s matches over on the Butch Buchholz court but two women’s matches have to take place before we get to the men so it will be late afternoon and early evening when these games are on court. The first one sees Gabriel Diallo, in as a lucky loser in place of Tallon Griekspoor, meeting Tomas Martin Etcheverry before Lorenzo Sonego faces another Argentine player in the form of Mariano Navone. When they are done the veteran Roberto Bautista Agut will close out the schedule when he faces Jakub Mensik.

Best of the Rest

British eyes will be firmly locked on Court 1 on Thursday afternoon when Jacob Fearnley opens the show and then he will be followed by the former Indian Wells champion Cameron Norrie while over on court seven the likes of Flavio Cobolli and Daniel Altmaier will be looking to set up clashes with seeded players over the weekend. The other men’s action comes along on Court 5 where the likes of Zizou Bergs, Nuno Borges, Jan-Lennard Struff, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Matteo Arnaldi are all taking to that part of the grounds.

Betting

There were two or three bets that I was considering over the course of the day but prices or lines are just a little on the tight side so I will leave it with just one as I look to bounce back from an annoying loser on Wednesday. That is the even money on Jenson Brooksby to beat Roman Safiullin. The Russian has been active this season but has struggled to put regular results together and I thought he was there for the taking by Reilly Opelka in Indian Wells a couple of weeks ago but the American folded like a deckchair after breaking in the first set.

That is the one thing I don’t see Brooksby doing here. The American has a career to repair after two years away from the sport and the signs in Indian Wells last week is that he is finding his rhythm again after a lengthy absence. It took the eventual winner Jack Draper to get the better of him there but Brooksby had seen off Felix Auger-Aliassime prior to that. Prior to that loss to Draper, it needed three setters to dispose of Brooksby in his two previous events where he might have ran out of steam after so long away. He looks fit and firing now though and I’d expect him to get the better of Safiullin here.
