The third round of the ATP Miami Open gets underway on Sunday when for the first time in the tournament at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida the seeded players can face off against each other as the second Masters 1000 event of the year continues.
We have a number of matches where the seeds collide and with some big names looking to make it into the last 16 of the tournament everything looks set up for another fantastic day of tennis out in Miami.
Stadium
Sunday is the day where three ATP matches take place over on the main stadium court but we do need to wait for a women’s game to be played out first. When the men do come along one of the home brigade will be on show when Seb Korda takes on Stefanos Tsitsipas. The second match of the three will see Novak Djokovic looking to make it through. He meets the lucky loser Camilo Ugo Carabelli for whom this is a massive day in his career. The other men’s match comes along in the second part of the night session and will see Francisco Cerundolo taking on Tommy Paul.
Grandstand
Whenever we have three matches on the stadium court we only have two on the Grandstand and they bookend the action. Grigor Dimitrov will be first up to get the schedule underway. He goes up against the former Olympic silver medallist Karen Khachanov before we go right down to the end of the day for the second one. Casper Ruud had a disappointing run in Indian Wells a couple of weeks ago and he’ll look to continue making up for that when he takes on Alejandro Tabilo.

Butch Buchholz
The other three men’s matches on Sunday will come on the Butch Buchholz part of the Hard Rock Stadium grounds. A women’s game takes place first but then the men come one after the other. First up will be Lorenzo Musetti. He meets Felix Auger-Aliassime before the home star Brandon Nakashima will take on the man who saw off Carlos Alcaraz in the previous round in the form of David Goffin. Two unseeded players meet in the final ATP match of the day on this court when Jaume Munar goes up against the always entertaining Gael Monfils.
Betting
Two bets stand out to me over the course of a really good looking card on Sunday with the first one being Jaume Munar to beat Gael Monfils. Monfils started the year off really well and he had another good run in Indian Wells last week but he has struggled past both of his opponents here and I wonder if he has met his match with the Spaniard who is much improved on hard courts this season having put plenty of work in at the end of the previous campaign to improve his talent away from the clay courts. That has led to a couple of semi-finals on the year already and he is much more reliable behind his serve. Monfils is getting no younger and with a couple of three set matches in his legs and an opponent who would relish a marathon here, the Spaniard looks a big price to me.
The other bet comes in the night session where I’m really surprised that Francisco Cerundolo looks a big price to get the better of Tommy Paul. I like Paul and regularly have him on my side but the last couple of weeks have been a concern. He was bang out of sorts against Daniil Medvedev in Indian Wells, especially on serve, and really struggled past Alexander Bublik in the opening match here too and he has to be vulnerable to a Cerundolo who seems to love it here. He was a semi-finalist in Miami in 2022 and quarter finalist 12 months later and he looks to be enjoying himself here this week. Matches between these two are always tight. All five three set matches have gone to a third set regardless of the surface but the Argentine has come out on top 4-2 overall. He looks great value to extend that lead.
