ATP Tennis World Tour Finals – Day 2 Betting Preview

Monday at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals sees the groups yet to get underway in both draws doing just that when the tournament continues over two more sessions of play inside the o2 Arena.

The opening day saw singles wins for Novak Djokovic and Milos Raonic while there were wins in the doubles for the Bryan Brothers as well as Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares. Monday sees the other main protagonists enter the fray.

Afternoon Session

Doubles – Nicolas Mahut & Pierre-Hugues Herbert vs Rajeev Ram & Raven Klaasen

The world number ones are in action to kick things off in the afternoon session in a match they will be widely expected to win and if they are to contend for this title they will want to win well too.

These two have met once in official competition which was in the final in Miami earlier in the season with the French pairing winning in the final set tie break. With the court playing faster here there might not be too much between them but I’m not wanting to take Mahut and Herbert on.

Singles – Stan Wawrinka vs Kei Nishikori

Arguably the tie of the first set of matches takes place in the afternoon session as the US Open champion Stan Wawrinka takes on the man he beat in the semi-final in New York in the Japanese star Kei Nishikori.

I don’t think Wawrinka will mind the court playing quicker. It will mean he can hit through the court a lot easier and although Nishikori chases everything down even he might have his work cut out to get everything back here especially if he drops things short. I’m on Wawrinka outright though and that is enough for me to have an interest here without another bet in what looks an even match up.

Evening Session

Doubles – Marc Lopez & Feliciano Lopez vs Henri Kontinen & John Peers

We’ve got a competitive looking opener to the evening session as the Spanish duo, the French Open champions, take on the other team to win a doubles tournament in Paris this year in Kontinen and Peers who won the recent Paris Masters title.

I quite like the pairing of Kontinen and Peers as I mentioned in my outright preview and having taken them to win the tournament I can avoid backing them at a short price in their tournament opener. They’re playing well at the minute though and they are my idea of the victors here.

Singles – Andy Murray vs Marin Cilic

The final two men to get their tournament underway are the newly crowned world number one Andy Murray and the man who beat him in the final to win the Cincinnati Masters in Marin Cilic. There is a case to be made that these two are the form horses coming into the tournament which bodes well for a good game which I’m doubly pleased about as I have tickets for this session!

Overall in their head to head Murray leads 11-3 but they’ve shared the last four meetings with Cilic winning in that Cincinnati final with Murray winning their other meeting in three sets at Queens a short time before that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we go the distance here. Murray has been the distance a few times recently and against opponents a lot weaker than Cilic. Cilic is in good nick. He beat Djokovic in Paris and might have an advantage with Murray’s former coach Jonas Bjorkman now in his corner. I fancy a tight match whether that is two tight sets or it going the distance and over 21.5 games looks the way to go to me.
