After an amazing turnaround in the opening ODI of three in Dhaka on Friday, England head into Sunday’s second game of the series on the same ground knowing they can secure the spoils with a match to come. Bangladesh are looking to protect a strong recent home record so they are unlikely to go down without a fight so another highly competitive match is anticipated.
Bangladesh
There hasn’t been much time between the first and second ODIs but in the time that there has been Bangladesh will probably have spent it wondering how on earth they lost the opening match from such a commanding position. The result aside there were many positives to come out of the first game for Bangladesh but not it is all about the result.
With the bat they looked very good up until the last 10 or so overs of their innings but credit to the England bowlers for coming back. A concern for the Tigers would be the amount of runs that was plundered off their bowling at the end of their innings but that is to be expected with them being without Mustafizur for this series.
England
Although they should have lost the opening match I think England will be pretty pleased with their performance in the first match. They were aggressive with the bat throughout their innings and they were decent enough with the ball. There is room for improvement with the ball for sure but I am always full of admiration for any side who keep going even when the cause looks a forlorn one.
Given the players England have missing in this series to wrap it up with a match to spare would be a wonderful achievement so they don’t lack for incentive going into this second ODI. They will be looking for a similar performance to the first game and that could well be enough.
Team News
Bangladesh will surely add in another bowler who can bat to avoid the potential for calamity which struck them in their batting innings in the first match. Nasir Hossain would be the obvious one to be included. Imrul Kayes will have had to recover from the cramps.
England are waiting for the confirmation of Jonny Bairstow’s fitness but reading between the lines he won’t be playing so his place will go to either Sam Billings or Liam Dawson. I would make Billings the favourite there. Liam Plunkett is expected to be fit again but might need to wait for a spot to become available.
Betting
This match is on the same ground as the previous one so I don’t need to drag up all the statistics again. If you want to see the ground stats then go back to the 1st ODI preview.
There is only one bet I like in this match and that is for England to hit more than 4.5 sixes. They hit no fewer than nine sixes in the first match and now they are settled into the conditions there are probably more to come from them too.
We say it all the time for England hit right down the order from the top to the bottom and with so much spin being bowled at them in this match I would be surprised if they don’t clobber five more balls over the ropes in this second game.
