Bangladesh vs England – 3rd ODI Tips and Betting Preview

Bangladesh and England leave Mirpur to head to Chattogram to conclude their ODI series on Monday, one which the tourists have already won and will be looking for a third win to complete a very rare clean sweep in this part of the world.

Bangladesh have lost the series but they haven’t been whitewashed in a bilateral series at home since 2014 and they will be out to preserve that fine record and build some confidence to take into the T20s which follow.

Bangladesh

Optimism was high in the Bangladesh camp heading into this series and with their record in home conditions that was fully justified but they couldn’t get over the line in that first game when they were in a winning position and in control of proceedings and not winning that manifested into the second game where they were pure and simply outplayed from start to finish. They have had the extra day to get ready for this game and might well have needed it.

When they look back and reflect on the Mirpur leg of the series I guess they will be disappointed with their batting efforts. That is probably strange to say when they coughed up more than 300 in the previous outing but if they had just found a few more runs in that opening game instead of being bowled out 16 balls before the end of their 50 overs they might have won that first match and the series could have been so very different.

England

There was no secret made by anyone in the England camp that these are conditions that they don’t enjoy but to their credit they have knuckled down, come out with everything they have got in them and got their rewards. This was going to be an uphill battle regardless of the opposition and the conditions because the Test team only finished a series in New Zealand the day before the opening match in Mirpur but they haven’t used that as an excuse and deserve a lot of credit for that.

We didn’t see the best of England with the bat in that opening game but we were keen to stress that they were always likely to come on for the run having not had a warm up match prior to the series. That was exactly the case as they were excellent in that department in the second game. The positive to both matches is that they have bowled really well even though they have had to rotate their bowlers to keep everyone healthy.

Team News

Bangladesh might have to make a decision over Mustafizur Rahman. He was extremely expensive in both matches in Mirpur and might benefit from a rest but at the same time he might be selected here to get some confidence back. Ebadot Hossain or Hasan Mahmud are most likely to replace him if he is rested.

England will be forced into one change because Will Jacks has been ruled out of the remainder of the tour. They have no direct replacement for him so there might be an ODI debut for Rehan Ahmed. Reece Topley is expected to play his first game of the tour.

Betting

The wicket at Chattogram is widely acknowledged as being much better to bat on than the one in Mirpur so when you consider that England have just put up over 300 with 38 boundaries we should probably expect another bunch of boundaries in this match. India scored 400 in the last ODI to be played on this ground and hit 55 boundaries themselves and even though Bangladesh were shot out for less than 200 in reply they still found the ropes on 20 occasions.

That makes the 53.5 boundaries line for this match look a little on the low side to me. This is a smaller ground than in Mirpur anyway and there is no competitive pressure on this match so the runs should naturally flow a little easier. When you add into the mix that competent batters such as Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim haven’t scored more than 16 in any of their four innings to date there is a lot more to come from the home side with the bat. On top of that, James Vince and Phil Salt have a top score of 12 between them. I like the potential of the over here.
