This Sunday’s Premier League action is comprised of three matches and features three of the sides chasing the title and European competition so it looks set to be another big day in the top flight.
It all begins at Villa Park as Arsenal will look to go top of the table when they take on Aston Villa. After that Liverpool host West Brom at Anfield and Tottenham take on Newcastle at the Lane.
If I’m honest I don’t see a lot of value in the early game. I’m tempted to get involved with Aston Villa but there’s no way I’m comfortable enough to trust them yet. It has to be said that they are improving though. They’re no longer getting tonked and they might show an upturn in form soon.
Arsenal’s last two away matches in the Premier League have seen them draw 1-1 at Norwich and lose 2-1 at West Brom so that isn’t a good record to be taking them on a handicap with so perhaps the best way to play the game is to leave it well alone.
The same thoughts apply to Liverpool in their game against West Brom. While they have shown signs of life under Jurgen Klopp it has generally only been in the matches they were big underdogs in such as at Chelsea and at Man City. At Anfield they have lost to Crystal Palace and last week they were awful at Newcastle.
West Brom have the personnel to keep things tight and if they can grab something on the break then they might get something from the game but a 1-0 Liverpool scoreline is a nagging concern so I’ll keep my powder dry in that match.
All eyes will be on Newcastle at the Lane to see if last week’s win over Liverpool was them turning the corner or whether it was just a fluke. One thing that is likely to be the case is they will need to be even better here because Spurs are looking menacingly good at the minute.
Tottenham are still unbeaten in the league since the opening day of the season and are starting to score goals for fun at White Hart Lane. Both Monaco and West Ham have come and gone with four goals against them along the way and if Newcastle’s defence reverts to type they could be conceding a few too.
Newcastle have already shipped five at a relatively goal shy Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago and Spurs have the talent going forward to make this another long afternoon for Steve McClaren and his side.
