With the Premier League back from its international break we get the latest Super Sunday show this weekend with two more matches from the English top flight.
This particular Sunday focuses more on the bottom of the Premier League as Sunderland host Tottenham in a match between two of the bottom four at the Stadium of Light before Leicester take on Aston Villa at the King Power Stadium.
Neither Sunderland nor Spurs have played the football or got the results they would have liked so far this season so this match could come at the right time for both of them.
Tottenham in particular have disappointed and after losing at Man Utd on the opening day they have drawn their three matches since then so are looking for their first win of the season here.
Sunderland have drawn their last two in the Premier League which is a significant improvement on their opening two matches this season but the time has come for them to start winning football matches too.
Both sides have signed strikers since they last played. Sunderland have brought in Fabio Borini from Liverpool while Spurs have signed Korean international Son Heung-min. All eyes will be on the Korean to see how quickly he can settle into English football.
Spurs will need him to settle very quickly because they have been very short of goals so far this season and you get the feeling if Harry Kane doesn’t score they’re not going to. Christian Eriksen missing out with injury does nothing to help them create chances for Kane.
Sunderland are definitely improving on what they showed right at the start of the season and I see no reason why they can’t keep on getting better and I fancy them to get a result here. They know if they stop Kane they largely stop Spurs so I expect Dick Advocaat to set up to contain him and with the likes of Lens, M’Vila, Fletcher and Borini on the break Sunderland carry a much stronger threat. At just under evens I’ll back the home side to get a result of some kind.
In the other game I’m not really sure I like anything. I sense it will be a high scoring game but both these sides have burnt me when I’ve backed over 2.5 goals in their games before so that puts me off taking them.
I fancy Leicester to get the win but there’s absolutely no value in them at odds on at this stage of the season so I’ll leave that game alone and just take the Sunderland-draw double chance.
