The final two matches of the Premier League weekend make up this week’s Super Sunday double header. The last four sides in the division play their fourth matches with all four looking for valuable points ahead of the international break.
First up Southampton host Norwich in the earlier kick off at St Mary’s. Southampton will have been disappointed by the fact they were dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday night. Down the line they might see that as a blessing in disguise but right now it is a disappointment.
They host a Norwich side who have an insanely good away record under Alex Neil and who have begun life back in the Premier League very positively. Norwich have already won at Sunderland this season but have taken the game to all three sides they’ve faced in the top flight so far and I don’t expect that to change here.
Southampton aren’t keeping the number of clean sheets that they were last season and that is understandable given the player turnover they have had in the summer. Morgan Schneiderlin and Toby Alderweireld were key cogs last year as was Fraser Forster. The first two have left and Forster is injured.
I’m expecting Southampton to produce a reaction of some kind in this match but I fancy Norwich to go at them as well so I like the idea of both sides scoring in Sunday’s opener.
The second part of the double header comes from the Liberty Stadium as Swansea host Manchester United. Both sides are unbeaten this season which should ensure we get a competitive game here.
Prior to United’s Champions League tie in Brugge in midweek I was leaning towards taking an under line of some kind as Wayne Rooney was out of form and Memphis Depay hadn’t really got going but Rooney bagged a hat-trick in midweek and that could kick start his campaign so I’m not as interested in that now.
I still can’t really work out United at the minute. I keep thinking they are there for the taking but they keep churning out a result so I think I’ll leave that game alone and hope I can pick up a better feel for them over the international break.
