Just two more matches remain in this latest midweek round of Premier League games and both are being played out on Wednesday.
After an exciting and potentially pivotal night for some at the top and the bottom on Tuesday the four sides in action on Wednesday will be looking to consolidate and improve their own positions.
The two matches see Watford hosting Chelsea in the live TV game while Everton play host to Newcastle at Goodison Park.
I can’t get a feel for Watford this season. When I think they will keep it tight they are in high scoring games and vica versa. One thing I do expect is Chelsea to be more than competitive and while I wouldn’t rule out a Chelsea win I don’t see too much value given how Watford can still be pretty hard to beat.
That said with a lack of value on show I will leave that game alone and go at the non TV match from Merseyside where Everton look far too short to me.
Everton have failed to win any of their last five league games at Goodison Park and have picked up dodgy results against some sides you would expect them to beat not least Swansea, Crystal Palace and Stoke.
Newcastle might not be in that category and in many ways they are even worse on the road than Everton are at home but although they have lost four of their last five away from St James’ they have at least lost their last three by a solitary goal and at much stronger home grounds than Everton’s in some cases.
Newcastle reinforced nicely in the transfer window with Andros Townsend, Jonjo Shelvey and Seydou Doumbia coming into the club and that might inspire a better turn of form, especially on the road. Pressure is just building on Roberto Martinez and Everton just look there to be taken on.
Newcastle are a more than acceptable price on the +1 Asian line which we would have got a push on in their last three away games but we would have been paid out in full on each of Everton’s last five at home so the line just looks a little too big to me.
