Once again the Premier League weekend concludes on Monday night when West Brom host Everton in the latest instalment of Monday Night Football.
Both sides sit in or around mid-table going into the match after the weekend’s results but with the table so tight both can move up a few places with a win which should ensure the match is very competitive.
West Brom have been found out a couple of times this season when they’ve been on TV but they have been against Man City and Chelsea. In the other matches they have been more than competitive and eight points in those four matches is solid form.
Everton were also shown up by Man City but they gave Chelsea a good beating which will have boosted their confidence no end. They also have a win over Southampton and three draws to their name so without standing out too often they’re quietly in decent nick.
Tony Pulis rested a number of players for the Capital One Cup defeat in midweek but he is set to recall his stars for this game. Jonny Evans will continue at the heart of a defence which is much improved since the last time they featured on a Monday night.
Roberto Martinez has injury doubts over Seamus Coleman and John Stones although with the game being on the Monday it gives them more of a chance to play. Kevin Mirallas definitely won’t play as he is suspended.
Traditionally this is often a low scoring fixture and that is how I expect this version of it to play out. Eight of the last nine in the Premier League have had two goals or fewer and with Everton having not scored in three of their last four league games and West Brom fans seeing only two goals in their last three matches it would be folly to expect a goalfest here.
Tony Pulis notoriously goes safety first against renowned top half sides and I expect him to keep with that philosophy here so I don’t think we’re going to see many, if any, goals in this one.
