The Big Bash League match on Friday comes from the Adelaide Oval as the Adelaide Strikers host the Hobart Hurricanes in a huge match for both sides. It is probably a bigger match for the home side but both will be eager for the win.
Adelaide go into this match with just the one win from four matches while Hobart are a win better off from the same number of games. Whoever loses this will be needing a strong end to the season to maintain a chance of the playoffs.
Adelaide Strikers
The Strikers go into this match off the back of a defeat to Hobart but as luck would have it they get an immediate chance to make amends. The trend of their season continued in that match. Quite simply they haven’t batted well enough all season apart from in their opening match and even when that came down to the crunch they were found wanting.
With the ball they have generally performed well. A couple of players have got away from them but you are going to get that in this format of the game but overall the likes of Chris Jordan, Ben Laughlin and a couple of spinners have bowled well. They will need to do that again here.
Hobart Hurricanes
It was a big win for the Hurricanes in their last match after a couple of brutal beatings by the Melbourne Stars and the Brisbane Heat. They produced probably their best bowling display of the tournament and then backed that up in style with the bat. If they can keep on performing to that level for the rest of the season they will be hard to beat.
Tim Paine has been the main man for the Hurricanes this season but you get the feeling his five wickets in the last match could well provide Dan Christian with the confidence to do some damage over the remainder of the campaign. A strong run of form from him would boost the Hurricanes’ top four chances.
Team News
Adelaide have named an unchanged squad for this match. Whether that is because they have no other options or they want to give the same side the chance to put things right I’m not sure. Kane Richardson remains sidelined.
Hobart Hurricanes have made one change to their squad with Ben McDermott coming in for Sam Rainbird. Shaun Tait missed the last win with an elbow injury and while he’s still in the squad his fitness will be assessed ahead of the game.
Betting
I think we’re in for a really good game here. Both sides need the win so both will be going all out for it so we might get one of those great finishes like we had in the Sydney Thunder game the other night. As ever at the Adelaide Oval I need to know the outcome of the toss before I bet on the match. Don’t be fooled by both matches here so far being won by the side batting first. Adelaide should have cruised the first one here while the Sixers produced a wretched run chase.
I have to go to the sixes here where the 11.5 line looks very acceptable. The first match here contained 21 sixes and while the second only had 11 we have to remember the Sixers barely played a shot in anger in the second innings of that match.
The match in Hobart had a dozen sixes despite neither side scoring 150 which highlights the potential of sixes here and when you factor in those short square boundaries I’m expecting to see the ball fly a lot in this one.
