Big Bash League 2017-18 – Hobart Hurricanes vs Brisbane Heat Betting Preview

The Big Bash League returns on Monday after the day off for the ODI and we have a real grudge match to enjoy as the Hobart Hurricanes host the Brisbane Heat in a massive match at the Blundstone Arena.

These two sides met in a controversial encounter last week in which the Hurricanes fell over the line and with the pair level on eight points in fourth and fifth place in the table the win will be huge for both of them.

Hobart Hurricanes

We all know by now how poor the start to the season was for the Hobart Hurricanes but they have well and truly put that behind them with four successive wins and now they are probably favourites to make the semi-finals given that they are level on points with the two sides above them and with games in hand on each.

The runs of Darcy Short have been a massive factor in the success of the Hurricanes and it would be futile to suggest that is not the case. If they are going to go very deep this season then he will need others to chip in around him but they certainly have the talent for that. They also have a very solid bowling attack too especially under pressure.

Brisbane Heat

The Heat are in the middle of an up and down season but they if they are going to extend that into the postseason then they are going to have to find some consistency between now and the end of the regular season else they will run out of matches. A win here would do their chances the power of good given the state of the table.

Brisbane could do with their seamers to stand up and deliver the goods to help out their spinners who are doing good things. They then need to hold their nerve in the tight moments if they are going to progress. They have enough experience for that to happen though so they should be more than good enough.

Team News

It comes as no surprise that the Hobart Hurricanes have named the same squad that they used for the previous match against the Heat. Only a late injury or illness will see them change their starting XI too.

Brisbane Heat have brought Josh Lalor back into their squad in the only change to it. That means Chris Lynn remains on the sidelines which is a bit of a blow for what is almost a playoff to get into the playoffs.

Betting

This is going to be an extremely competitive match after the obstructing the field decision when these two met in Brisbane and as a result I expect this one to be quite high scoring too. I don’t expect Brisbane Heat to lay down at all but Hobart Hurricanes have plenty to like about them despite that.

Both these batting line ups are full of power and while their bowling can be good on its day we usually have a short boundary at Blundstone Arena which can get peppered. The total runs line for this match is 338.5 which looks low based on what we’ve seen on this ground so far in the tournament. I’ll take the over.
