Big Bash League 2018-19 – Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers Betting Preview

The top two meet in the biggest match of the Big Bash League season so far on Friday when the Hobart Hurricanes play host to the surprise package of the campaign thus far in Sydney Sixers at Blundstone Arena.

The Hurricanes have been flawless in the campaign to date as they look to go one better than they managed in this competition last season while the Sixers are former champions themselves and look determined to get their title back.

Hobart Hurricanes

If you had offered the Hobart Hurricanes four wins from four matches before a ball was bowled in this competition they would have snapped your hands off, but to get the manner of victories that they have done will have absolutely delighted them. They haven’t really been made to work in any of their matches and it already looks like it will need something special to deny them this season.

They have the near perfect combination of top order runs at a decent lick and a good bowling attack who up their game in the big overs and at the important times of the innings. They are a side full of confidence and playing with freedom and those teams are always dangerous animals. We need to see them come out on top in a scrap for them to be genuine potential winners but that’s the only question over them.

Sydney Sixers

I think many judges expected the Sydney Sixers to really struggle this season, with a reason for that being their light looking batting line up but to their eternal credit their big batsmen have made decent individual contributions at the right time to earn them three wins from their opening five matches, and have them in a nice position with a lengthy run of home matches to come after the Sydney Test match.

Although they would rather have their entire batting order delivering at the same time and producing big totals, the fact that a number of them have passed 50 in the competition is encouraging and suggests that a complete display could be around the corner. If it is they will be hard to beat because there is nothing wrong with their attack.

Team News

Hobart Hurricanes have named an unchanged squad and given that they have won their opening four matches in the tournament it is likely to take a late illness or injury to see them making any changes to the starting team.

The Sydney Sixers have also named an unchanged squad for this contest with them also unlikely to make any changes unless they are forced into them with an injury or an illness that has not been disclosed as yet.

Betting

I don’t think we are going to be in for a high scoring game here given the quality on show with the ball but I think the better bet on the contest comes in the sixes market where a 12.5 line looks very much on the high side. I’ve made plenty of the fact that the Sydney Sixers don’t hit many sixes but at the same time they don’t concede many either.

Hobart Hurricanes are more free spirited in their aggressive batting but if either of their openers fail there is a slight concern over a lack of time in the middle for the lower to middle order. This Hobart attack doesn’t go around the park very often so I believe the bowlers can keep the sixes below 12.5 in this one.
