The second match of the juicy triple header of action in the Big Bash League on Sunday comes from the GMHBA Stadium in Geelong and sees the Melbourne Renegades looking to go level on points with the leaders Hobart Hurricanes when they take on the Brisbane Heat.
These two teams met a few days ago in Brisbane when the Renegades cruised to victory and they will be expected to win here too but the Heat will have other ideas which should make this second game of the three on Sunday tasty enough.
Melbourne Renegades
That was a second successive win for the Melbourne Renegades after they saw off the Hobart Hurricanes in the match prior to their success over the Heat and on both occasions their bowlers did the job nicely and took all the pressure off their batsmen, who duly had no problems in completing the job at hand.
I get the feeling that the Renegades were just beginning to find a groove but that might all be about to change, as like most of the sides in the competition they are now without key men because of ODI duty and new blood is coming into their ranks. Their method for success remains the same though. Bowl well and set the game up for their batsmen.
Brisbane Heat
It looked like the Brisbane Heat were getting a real head of steam up after two emphatic wins in succession but that came to a shuddering halt last time out when they were exposed and badly beaten by the Melbourne Renegades. They have not had a huge amount of time to dissect what went wrong and go again either.
Brisbane’s batting was disappointing in their previous match and that is a surprise for two reasons. Firstly because they had been in good touch with the willow heading into it, and secondly because they were playing on one of the best wickets in the country. It will be interesting to see how they adapt to everything in this match.
Team News
Harry Gurney is in the Melbourne Renegades squad for the first time in this match. He replaces Usman Khan Shinwari who is off on Pakistan duty. Kane Richardson misses out with a sore hamstring while Aaron Finch is with Australia.
James Pattinson has picked up another injury, this time a side strain, so he is going to be missing for the contest, while Joe Burns drops out of the squad. Marnus Labaschagne and Jack Prestwidge come into it, with the latter potentially making his debut.

Betting
I like the Melbourne Renegades here I must admit. Without James Pattinson there isn’t much in the Heat bowling that is going to trouble the Renegades top order and if they can get off to a flyer they have all the experience necessary to get the job done in the middle order which makes them so appealing.
There is no doubt in my mind that even without Kane Richardson the Renegades have the better bowling attack of these two teams so all things being equal, and especially after the emphatic nature of the outcome when they met the other day, I’m expecting to see the men in red triumph in this one.
