Big Bash League 2018-19 – Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder Betting Preview

Two sides who won their last match do battle in the one Big Bash League match on Wednesday when the Melbourne Renegades take on the Sydney Thunder in what is another important match in the competition.

The Renegades are ensconced firmly in the top four at the minute but the Thunder are not a million miles away from those spots themselves, and a win here will send them back into the semi-final spots, so both have plenty to play for in this one.

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades made it successive wins when they powered past the Perth Scorchers on Monday. Prior to beating the Scorchers, they saw off the Sydney Thunder in the reverse fixture between these two, which might be fairly significant when these two teams face off once again. On both occasions their bowlers delivered the goods to get them over the line.

Although the Melbourne batsmen passed 150 in both matches, they only really put up par totals in each contest, but that was more than enough with their bowlers restricting the Thunder to 140/5 and Perth to a paltry 79 all out. If their batters can keep on passing 150 then you get the feeling the Renegades will be tough to stop.

Sydney Thunder

The Thunder have recovered from their defeat to the Renegades by seeing off the aforementioned Perth Scorchers themselves since then. They have actually lost just one of their last four matches heading into this contest, so they are in good form, but with the runaway leaders Hobart Hurricanes still to play, they urgently need wins to maintain their semi-final challenge.

In each of those wins their batsmen have come to the party. 168/6 is the lowest total they have put up in those victories and if they continue to bat strongly they too will feel they have wins in them. The Thunder bowling probably has a tendency to go astray a little more than the Renegades one so it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Team News

The Melbourne Renegades have made two changes to their squad for this match with Cameron White ruled out with a hamstring injury. Jack Wildermuth comes in for him while Jon Holland returns for Joe Mennie.

Sydney Thunder have been forced into a move with Matt Gilkes out with injury. Baxter Holt will come in for his debut while Jono Cook and Arjun Nair have been recalled. Sam Rainbird drops out for this match.

Betting

I’m with the Melbourne Renegades here. I wouldn’t say I rely on either batting line up necessarily but I think their bowling attack is much the more reliable. The Renegades have already won the reverse fixture between these two relatively comfortably and look like they have kicked on from there so I fancy they will win here too.

Sydney have the ability to bat well but their bowling has a flaky edge to it and I’m not convinced anyone is going to splatter this Renegades bowling attack very far. If the likes of Aaron Finch or Dan Christian get going then I think they will have a total that their attack can work with. I’m with the home side in this one.
