The Sydney Sixers are former winners of the Big Bash League but they finished one spot outside the playoffs last season and will be looking to get back in title contention this term. They usually bring a very competitive team into the tournament but when you look through their squad this year some holes have appeared. They will need filling if the Sixers are to have the campaign they would like this time around.

Preview
There is a lop-sided look to the fixtures for the Sydney Sixers with the final Test match between Australia and India meaning that they have to spend much of the first half of the tournament playing away from home. Five of their last six are on their home patch though so this campaign could be about hanging in there until the halfway mark and then getting stuck in through the second half of the season.
If there is something that might dictate the course of the campaign for the Sixers it will be about how well they can bat. If they can put up sizeable totals on a regular enough occasion then they certainly look to have the bowling attack to rack up the wins. There is a big if in that though it must be said.

Betting
I’m already on Moises Henriques to be the leading scorer in the tournament but there isn’t much in the way of value in him heading the way for the Sydney Sixers although I do think he could be something of a penalty kick. To tie too much money up on a player for two months and risk him getting injured isn’t my way forward unless there is good value involved which there isn’t. There is a bet I like in the bowling market however.
All the attention is on Sean Abbott and that is understandable but Ben Dwarshuis is often pretty reliable up top with the new ball. He gets the ball to move around a bit and when teams are looking to take advantage of the powerplay that can often be crucial. Nathan Lyon will miss much of the season while Tom Curran could easily be called away. If something was to happen to Abbott then Dwarshuis could be the one to take advantage.
