Two form sides meet in the only match in the Big Bash League on Saturday as the Perth Scorchers host the Sydney Thunders at the Optus Stadium in a clash you feel could be significant for both parties.
The Thunder begin the clash on top of the table but the Scorchers are beginning to get into a groove which could see them power their way into the top five and upward between now and the end of the regular season.
Perth Scorchers
It took a while for the Perth Scorchers to come to life this season but they look to be hitting their best form now and a win here will move them into the top five. That is pretty significant because the Scorchers have games in hand of the other teams in the competition so they will be sitting very nicely should they win this match. The Scorchers have already won their first two home matches and will be eyeing up a third success here.
It is the ideal position to be in when your batting is hitting the mark and your bowlers are on top of their game and that is where the Scorchers have been in the last two matches. Historically they have been strong at home but they will have to go on the road for five games so they will need to ensure they can continue to deliver the goods on their travels, but right now they look like they might take a lot of stopping.
Sydney Thunder
The Sydney Thunder go into this match having bounced back from their surprise defeat to the Brisbane Heat by beating the Hobart Hurricanes on this ground and you get the feeling they are ready to launch for the top spot once again. Sydney still have their home leg of the season to come as well so there is every reason to believe they can push on and give themselves the best chance of negotiating the finals when they come along.
Much like their opponents in this match, the Thunder are in that nice position whereby they have a batting line up which is powerful and all scoring nicely in the competition and they have a bowling attack which has all the bases covered. If we were being slightly critical there is an argument that one or two of their bowlers are just starting to be expensive but that really would be nit picking. The other good thing is they have won matches chasing as well as setting.

Team News
The Perth Scorchers have released Sam Whiteman from their squad but with Josh Inglis in their ranks he wasn’t going to be needed anyway. It would be something of a surprise if the Scorchers are not unchanged here.
The Sydney Thunder have kept with the same squad which they picked from for that win over the Hobart Hurricanes last time out. That means that Daniel Sams remains out as he continues to recover from his concussion against the Heat.
Betting
I’m expecting something of a high scoring match here because we have a couple of teams who love to go after the bowling and they should have the conditions to do exactly that with this being a day game. Although both bowling attacks are going along nicely this term I think they could quickly be under pressure from the power that is on offer from the opposing batting and as a result of that I expect to see a few boundaries here.
Both these teams have players who can reach and clear the ropes and lots of them. When you think that Ben Cutting is coming in at six or seven for the Thunder and Ashton Turner is the number six for the Scorchers we know both teams are full of hitters. These two teams have had three innings on this ground this season and they have hit 20 or more boundaries in each of them. That makes me think the over 375 boundaries is a fair bet on what should be a very high scoring contest.
