The penultimate match in the Big Bash League prior to the break for the second Ashes Test match takes place on Tuesday and it looks a cracking contest as the Hobart Hurricanes host the Perth Scorchers at Blundstone Arena.
Both these sides have got off the mark in terms of wins this season so there should be a relaxed nature to the pair of them, which will hopefully mean we see a really good game of cricket between two of the better sides in the competition.
Hobart Hurricanes
You could argue that although they don’t head the table, the Hobart Hurricanes are in a better position than most if not all the teams in the league. I say that because after just two matches they have got both their fixtures with the reigning champions Sydney Sixers out of the way. With the Sixers looking like the team to beat that is a huge thing and the fact Hobart won the second of those matches will give them a lot of confidence to take forward.
Hobart look very strong with the bat in particular. I guess that is important when you consider their ground is such a good one to bat at. They look a little light with the ball at present although they do have a couple of significant injuries in that department so we should probably cut them some slack here. They will need to bat well if they are going to come out of this match with anything you would think, but they carry plenty of confidence from doing a job on the Sixers with the bat last time out.
Perth Scorchers
The Perth Scorchers have won both their first two matches so they will be making the trip to Hobart full of confidence. They had to ride their bowlers to come out on top in their opening game against the Brisbane Heat but then a Colin Munro century saw them cruise to victory in their second match against the Adelaide Strikers. The Scorchers know they are going to be disadvantaged throughout the course of the season with them unable to host any matches in Perth so a good start was essential.
The other reason why a good start was beneficial was because they were without three big players for the beginning of the competition and having got off to a positive beginning to their campaign they can now kick on with those three players available. The Scorchers know how to go all the way in this competition and regularly being on the road is likely to see them galvanise and bond stronger and form something of a siege mentality. They are dangerous.

Team News
The Hobart Hurricanes have three big players back themselves with Scott Boland, Harry Brook and Ben McDermott in the squad for the first time this season. Riley Meredith remains out injured but Hobart look at their strongest so far.
The Perth Scorchers welcome Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh and Tymal Mills into their side for this match. Jhye Richardson is away with Australia though so he will not be available. Aaron Hardie could be one of the men to make way.
Betting
This is the first match at the Blundstone Arena for this season and this is a ground which will be under the spotlight in the coming weeks now that it has been handed the final Ashes Test match next month. Given that it is the opening match here we should get one of those flat pitches that this place is synonymous for and with that in mind I’m expecting the runs to really flow in this match with both sides batting very deep in their order.
The runs line for this match is at 324.5, which might be on the high side based on what we’ve seen over the last couple of days, but this ground is very good for batting and these two sides look full of runs. Perth might not have offered much with the bat yet apart from the century by Munro last time out but Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh bring serious quality to the party. Hobart are stronger with the bat too so I like the runs to flow here.
