Big Bash League 2021-22 – Sydney Sixers vs Brisbane Heat Tips and Betting Preview

There is another double header of action in the Big Bash League on Wednesday, although this time the two matches overlap. The first one to begin sees the champions Sydney Sixers back in action when they host the Brisbane Heat.

The Sixers saw the runaway leaders Perth Scorchers lose on Tuesday and they will be looking to take advantage and close the gap at the top. The Heat were downed by the Melbourne Stars on Boxing Day and will be looking to make up for that here.

Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers head into this match off the back of a morale boosting win over the Sydney Thunder in the Sydney Smash on Boxing Day, a result which has already been nicely franked with the Thunder downing the Perth Scorchers on Tuesday. There was an element of fortune about things with the rain coming in and assisting them a little, although the brutal fashion in which they finished their batting innings carried an air of optimism about it for the remainder of the season.

The Sixers have won five of their six matches this season with four of those coming when they have restricted the opposition to less than 150. When you consider that in five of their six matches they have scored more than 150 it is fair to say that both sides of the game is working for the defending champions. They are even winning matches despite the lack of continuity in their team selection due to injuries and other issues.

Brisbane Heat

The Brisbane Heat can’t seem to get anything going in terms of consistency this season. They are six matches into their campaign and have only won two of them so they appear unable to secure back-to-back wins which is something that is going to need to change if they are to qualify for the finals. They won’t be winning successive matches here either as they go into this game off the back of a bit of a soul searching loss to the Melbourne Stars last time out.

You can just about accept losing to the Stars even though they are one of their rivals for a playoff place, but to lose to them when they were allowed to make 207/9 when they were in all sorts of strife at 16/3 isn’t as acceptable. To their credit, the Heat battled hard with the bat but they were never quite able to get up with the run rate. The positive to come out of that defeat was the runs of Chris Lynn. They need him in form for the remainder of the campaign.

Team News

Shadab Khan remains in the Sydney Sixers squad for this match and might well debut for this one with the weather looking much better in Sydney. Nick Winter is another Sixer who could make his first start if he is selected.

Brisbane Heat have added Nathan McSweeney and Cameron Gannon to their squad for this away trip. Xavier Bartlett and Jack Wildermuth will be looking to come into the side and you would imagine one of them will come in for Liam Guthrie who got smashed for 70 in his four overs against the Stars.

Betting

I like the sixes in this match. Both sides come into this game having hit a lot of sixes in their last match and conceded a lot of them as well so that certainly encourages me when it comes to backing the sixes. In the likes of Dan Christian and Chris Lynn this match has a couple of the biggest six hitters in the competition on show here, but there are plenty of others who can give the ball a good biff and get it over the ropes, even the medium range ones at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The other reason why I like the sixes in this match is because we are a week away from the next Ashes Test taking place on this ground so there is little to no chance of this match taking place in the middle of the square. That will lead us to some short boundaries and with both teams having left handers in their ranks any short boundaries on show will be perfectly accessible. The sixes line here is only 9.5 and that feels extremely coverable.
