A wonderful week of golf at Woburn concludes on Sunday when the British Masters title will be decided under what are expected to be sunny skies on the Bedfordshire/Buckinghamshire border.
Matthew Fitzpatrick has enjoyed the home crowds this week as he has led from the opening day and he takes a share of the lead into the final round. The Sheffield star, tipped up here before a ball was hit, is tied for the lead on 12 under par with the bulky Thai player Kiradech Aphibarnrat.
There is another pair a shot behind the two leaders who will quietly fancy their chances going into the final round in the form of the ultra-straight Soren Kjeldsen and the in form Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanotti.
Another group sit three back from the lead which includes some really big names. That group consists of Luke Donald, Shane Lowry and Romain Wattel among others but all those either need the leaders to come back or a big final round to get right into contention.
Zanotti and Kjeldsen are playing catch up and that might not be ideal. Zanotti’s putter has a habit of going quiet on Sunday although this course offers up some natural birdies to keep him alive. Kjeldsen’s putting confidence is starting to wane in front of our eyes.
Unless someone like Lowry or Donald get something rolling early I have this event between the two leaders. I’m not sure Aphibarnrat can keep driving the ball so well when the pressure is on so this could well fall to whether Fitzpatrick is ready to get the job done.
Given I’m on both him and Zanotti outright I’ve no need to hit the outright market again. Anyone who didn’t take my pre-tournament might want to get on Fitzpatrick though. There is a bet on the three balls which stand out and I’ll go with that for Sunday.
Shane Lowry goes out in the third last group on Sunday alongside Richard Bland and Anthony Wall and amazingly he is odds against to win that match.
Richard Bland has been suffering with a bad back all week so he is easy enough to take on so I have this between Lowry and Wall. Wall’s Sunday record isn’t the best and he might struggle to get it done but I don’t see Lowry having those problems.
He looks to be striking the ball really nicely at the minute and if he can just get a few putts to hole then he should take the other two to the cleaners here. At odds against he looks a no brainer bet here.
