The Caribbean Premier League game on Wednesday night comes from Barbados as the Barbados Tridents face the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in what is a pretty big game for both sides.
Barbados saw their opening home match of the tournament washed out on Monday night and will be looking to make up for that here while St Kitts and Nevis have started the season really slowly and are running out of time to get up and running.
Barbados Tridents
Barbados haven’t really got going in this tournament yet. A slow start due to being away in their first couple of matches were then added to by a washout so they will be hoping that the weather clears up and they can get out on the field and get winning matches.
When they do play we will see some of the most talented players in the world in this format on show with all eyes being on AB de Villiers and Kieron Pollard but Ravi Rampaul is more than competent with the ball and Shoaib Malik has played a good role in this tournament in the past.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
Having had their home leg and made a bit of a mess of it the Patriots are under real pressure for the rest of the tournament. Games are running out quickly for St Kitts and Nevis so if they are going to forced their way into the top four which would earn them a playoff spot they will need to do it very quickly.
On paper the Patriots have an excellent bowling attack but they haven’t really clicked in this tournament yet and their batsmen have felt the pressure of that. Although dew could be an issue I do wonder if St Kitts and Nevis would be better off batting first and allowing their spinners to restrict sides with their quality.
Betting
The home side are 8/11 to win this match which is probably fair enough but I’m not sure I can be backing that if they are going to bowl second and have to contend with the dew. The toss could be a little too important here.
One bet I am happy to take though is for there to be more than 31.5 boundaries. We only saw 10 overs on this ground on Monday night but we saw 17 boundaries in that time and I’m expecting to see plenty more here too.
Both sides have aggressive batsmen at the top of the order and while on paper they have decent bowling attacks neither are really functioning how they would like to be. There will be chances to find the ropes and I expect to see them hit 32 times and probably quite a few more.
