Copa America 2024 – Group B: Jamaica vs Venezuela Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The final matches in Group B is on the menu at the Copa America on Sunday night and the main game sees Venezuela looking to secure top spot in the section when they go up against an already eliminated Jamaica in Austin.

Venezuela head to Austin knowing that a draw will be enough to win the group and set up a quarter final with Canada while Jamaica are going to be using this match to build up some confidence ahead of World Cup qualifying.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Premier Sports 2 channel with the coverage getting started at 12.50am ahead of the 1am kick off.

Jamaica

This clearly hasn’t been the tournament that Jamaica would have wanted to put together. They would have arrived in America with hopes of putting up a positive showing but it hasn’t really happened for them. There is an imbalance to this team which will need sorting over the next two years if they qualify for the World Cup and want to put a good showing together. They are a little unfortunate that a couple of key players have missed the tournament but the beauty about them being in this event was to know what they need to iron out.

Now that they are out of the competition you hope that they can get the ball down and show some of the flair that they have within their squad and have a real good go at this match. They have had moments in both of the games that they have played but they haven’t been able to get control of either contest throughout and have paid the price. They aren’t a million miles behind Venezuela technically so this is a chance to show that.

Venezuela

I think given the way that they have been going in World Cup qualifying, Venezuela would have headed to the Copa America liking their chances of making it out of this group, although they would have known that they would have had to work hard to do it. To be fair, their task was made easier when Ecuador went down to 10 men in the first half of their opening encounter but having survived that and won they then doubled down against Mexico and now just need to stay upright to win the group.

They will want to win the group now so it will be interesting to see just how many changes they make to their side, if they make any. There is no way they will want to run into Argentina until they really have to so they should have a bit of a go here although they will be well aware that they have a day less to recover for whoever their quarter final opponent is so that might mean that they rotate a little in this match.

Betting

I think this will be a more open match than it might have looked at the start of the competition when it looked like this could have plenty riding on it. The fact that it doesn’t makes me think that both teams will be able to go out and entertain in this match. Venezuela have offered plenty going forward in their two matches anyway but Ecuador showed that even with 10 men there is a way in behind this defence and Jamaica certainly have the pace and power to cause some trouble.

I have no doubt that there are goals in this Jamaica side but I’m not so convinced that there is a clean sheet in them so I like both teams to score here. If Jamaica score first then there is no point in Venezuela not taking the odd risk to try to equalise because they won’t want to leave things up in the air in terms of not winning the group. That makes me think that the 6/5 on both teams finding the net is the way to play what should be a more entertaining match than expected.
