County Cricket 2025 – Glamorgan Team Guide

It was a successful season for Glamorgan last term when they won the Metro Bank One Day Cup for the second time this decade. Whenever the Cardiff outfit land silverware it is a positive campaign but they will be desperate to push for promotion to the top tier in red ball cricket this time around, while also putting up a solid defence of their 50 over crown.

Last Season

County Championship: Sixth in Division 2

One Day Cup: Winners

Vitality Blast: Group Stage

Club

Captain: Sam Northeast

Overseas Player(s): Colin Ingram, Asitha Fernando

Ins: Ned Leonard

Outs: Harry Podmore, Prem Sisodiya

One to watch: Will Smale – Glamorgan are looking for an opener to partner Eddie Byrom at the top of the order and Smale is the man likely to get first chance to nail down that spot.

Championship Odds: 12/1 General

Strengths

There are plenty of runs in the middle order of this Glamorgan outfit. Captain Sam Northeast has been one of the better players in county cricket for a while now while Colin Ingram is a mainstay of any Glamorgan side. There will be pressure on him though because Marnus Labuschagne is not being brought back to Cardiff this summer. The likes of Kiran Carlson and Billy Root have plenty of second division runs in them so Glamorgan look nicely set up with the bat in all forms of the game.

Weaknesses

If Glamorgan are going to get in amongst it in terms of the race for promotion then you would imagine they will need to discover a top level all-rounder. The likes of Dan Douthwaite and Ben Kellaway could probably get the job done in the white ball competitions but unless we have a wonderful summer which brings a bit of turn to the Cardiff tracks you wonder if Glamorgan will be able to sufficiently balance their side in the red ball game.

Trophy Prospects

Glamorgan will be keen to go well in the 50 over competition once more. Going into the season they will only lose Mason Crane to The Hundred which is very much a positive, although there is still the chance that Kiran Carlson does something to impress a team as a wildcard. While Glamorgan will want to push for promotion in the Championship others look much stronger with the ball in hand while the South Group might be a little too strong for their bowlers in the T20 too.

England Duty

You would imagine that the England prospects of Sam Northeast are a thing of the past so it is unlikely that England will come calling too much this season. You wonder if there is a way back into the England ranks for Mason Crane, maybe in white ball cricket, but he is way down the pecking order right now and Kiran Carlson would probably need a fantastic start to the summer if he is going to be in the mix.

Predicted Championship Finishing Position: 6th
