Hampshire had a largely quiet season by their standards last term and the takeover by the Delhi Capitals franchise will increase the expectation to get back to winning silverware in Southampton this time around. They crave that elusive Championship title and are always competitive in white ball cricket but this is an aging squad for whom this could be the final chance of glory.

Strengths
Hampshire might have lost the services of Mohammad Abbas this season but there is a lot of depth to their bowling unit. Kyle Abbott will spearhead the attack once again and with impressive youngsters such as John Turner and Eddie Jack ready to go and Scott Currie benefitting from a season away, as well as the acquisition of Sonny Baker to go with the likes of Keith Barker and James Fuller who are seasoned campaigners, Hampshire have plenty of bowling options.

Weaknesses
The Hampshire batting has creaked at the seams for a while and the loss of James Vince in red ball cricket is going to do nothing to make that any better. Mark Stoneman has come in to offer a solid opening option but there is a glaring hole in the middle order that someone will need to fill. That isn’t really the case in white ball cricket with Vince back for the T20 but even then Ben McDermott isn’t coming back this season. The campaign will be determined by how Hampshire fill the huge hole that Vince leaves.
Trophy Prospects
Hampshire will hope to compete in all three formats of the game this season but you would imagine that The Hundred calls will hinder them a touch in the One Day Cup. There is a lot of change to the T20 side this season too with Ben McDermott and Nathan Ellis huge parts of their success in recent seasons but not appearing this time around. Hampshire will put everything into winning the County Championship but their batting might hold them back.
England Duty
Hampshire are generally in a good place when it comes to England calls. John Turner is in the mix for a position and the more seamers that get injured the bigger the role the seamer could get. Liam Dawson continues to push the door down for a recall but keeps getting ignored and Hampshire will be hoping that he remains with them for as long as possible. Sonny Baker has been in the England Lions set up.
Predicted Championship Finishing Position: 6th
