Leicestershire couldn’t quite repeat the trophy winning season of 2023 last time out but they still had a perfectly acceptable campaign for a club of their resources. They will be looking to improve on last season and if they can have another strong tilt at the One Day Cup along the way then that will do them nicely.

Overseas Player(s): Peter Handscomb, Logan van Beek, Shan Masood

Strengths
Leicestershire have been pretty good with the bat for a good while now. That is helped by the pitches at Grace Road often being absolute roads which allows their top order the better chance to get in and find their feet. It also means that their aggressive hitters can come in and try to put time into the game to give their bowlers more ammunition to try and win matches. Those aggressive batters can make them very tough to beat in white ball cricket when they come off.

Weaknesses
The pitches at Grace Road are so good and they rarely disintegrate which means that forcing a result in red ball cricket can be a really tough ask, especially if Rehan Ahmed isn’t available to the Foxes. Their lack of resources means that their bowling unit is always going to be a young one because any stars get snapped up by the bigger counties but if Leicestershire can find a couple of bowlers to get 40 wickets or more they could be in business.
Trophy Prospects
Although Josh Hull and Rehan Ahmed will be away for it, Leicestershire are always a side you are immediately drawn towards when it comes to winning the One Day Cup because they don’t lose any of their batters to The Hundred. That is the case again this season so that would look an obvious route towards silverware, although they will be looking to get back to their strongest days in the Vitality Blast as well.
England Duty
Rehan Ahmed hasn’t played too much for England in a home summer but the potential is there for him to be called up should England start looking for the successor to Adil Rashid in white ball cricket while injuries to seamers could quickly have Josh Hull as part of the set up as well. Rishi Patel has a huge reputation and if he was at a more fashionable county he could be one in line but that looks to be a way off thankfully for Leicestershire.
Predicted Championship Finishing Position: 4th
