Warwickshire had a season to forget in red ball cricket last term and that has brought about a fair bit of change at Edgbaston in a bid for bigger and better things over the course of this campaign. Warwickshire will want to be higher up the Championship table and pushing for some white ball success this season.
Last Season
County Championship: Seventh in Division 1
One Day Cup: Semi-Final
Vitality Blast: Quarter Final
Club
Captain: Alex Davies
Overseas Player(s): Tom Latham, Beau Webster, Hasan Ali, Vishwa Fernando
Ins: Ethan Bamber
Outs: Will Rhodes, Chris Benjamin, Michael Burgess, Amir Khan
One to watch: Kai Smith – could be the man to step up and take the gloves permanently that have been released by the retired Michael Burgess
Championship Odds: 16/1 Coral
Strengths
Warwickshire have plenty of variation in their bowling attack, which with the dry weather to begin the season should be no bad thing. They have seamers to either come back from injury or to arrive in the country for overseas stints but when everyone is around and up to speed it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Bears prospering with the ball both at Edgbaston and in away conditions.

Weaknesses
There is a lack of solidity in the middle order after the reliable Michael Burgess retired. If there batters come good in the deeper part of the batting then Warwickshire will be fine but there is a risk attached to the cricket that they play and it could go either way. They will be looking for the likes of Dan Mousley to show some ability to resist the pressure of the opposing bowlers and making some big scores this summer.
Trophy Prospects
Warwickshire should improve in the Championship once Tom Latham arrives in the country, especially when the likes of Hasan Ali or Beau Webster are around but the title might be beyond them in that. It might be that their best chance of glory comes in the One Day Cup where they look like they are going to avoid the number of call ups to The Hundred which has dented their chances in recent seasons.
England Duty
It remains to be seen which direction England go down in white ball cricket under a new captain but the calls for Sam Hain will continue to get louder if he keeps on churning out runs this term. Dan Mousley has featured in the T20 side for England and could easily get back in there if he has a strong summer while Ed Barnard could be an option for the all-rounder spot in the Test side should anything happen to Ben Stokes. Jacob Bethell is likely to be with England for more than Warwickshire might have wanted.
Predicted Championship Finishing Position: 3rd
